• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all.
Although I tagged this as MSFS24, this applies to all the sims. Making LODs is time consuming and now demanded by MSFS 2024. Applying your creations to the Marketplace may be impossible without following the dictates from Asobo and Microsoft regarding LODs... probably because of the influence of XBox. The MSFS 2024 Blender exporter allows auto-generation of the LODs via Simplygon. But you need to buy a license, and the price is ridiculous. I assume this is true for 3dsMax as well.

I stumbled across InstaLOD
They have a free "Pioneer" license that allows the use of InstaLOD Studio if your income from modeling is less than $100,000 per year. It is a Windows program that has some impressive features, including generation of LODs. It works with glTFs. Their website might lead you to believe it is integrated with Blender, but that is only for a paid subscription. The Pioneer license is good for a year, and hopefully will be extended into the future. The InstaLOD Studio income limitation is for individuals or businesses. I would assume if 10 employees make less than $100,000 per year each, then each could have a license. The license is tied to the PC... you don't need to login to use it.

YouTube has a few videos if anyone is interested: InstaLOD on Youtube
