• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Custom object placement

Hi to all,
I have made a scenery with custom objects. I placed them in scenery with MDX.
I need to make some small corrections of some objects, as far as rotation and lat/long is concerned.
How can I do that?
I tried with MDX, but when I use "view map", I see a big sqare, against the object itself. Therefore, it's impossible to make small corrections as far as its' direction is concerned, because I can't see the object, in order to place it in its' exact position.
Any help?

Best way is to import a photoreal imagery your 3d modelling software with right measurements (I have attached links below on how to do them for various 3d modelling softwares) and then place the marking objects over the photoreal in your 3d modelling software (whichever you are using) and you can select the markings and export them and then with the center co ordinates you get of the photoreal you can place them easily without caring about the rotation or exact lat long fix as you place them already on top of where they should be within your 3d modelling tool .

If you are using Gmax / 3dsMax Follow this tutorial : https://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Align_background_image_in_3D_editor

if you are using sketchupyou can follow this tutorial by Soarfly Concept :

thanks for your reply,
Actually, I have seen these tutorials, but they didn't help me to do exactly what I want. Also, I don't use Gmax or Sketchup. I use blender.
And what I want is to make small corrections/movements of the object, just a few centimeters for example, for precise placement.

Hello:

I would recommend installing FSX or a pre-P3Dv4.x version and using Flight1's Instant Scenery (aka "IS3").

http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=iscen3

BGLComp-XML scenery library object placement BGLs IS3 outputs are compatible with P3Dv4.x (as is almost all FSX scenery). :pushpin:

Alternatives which reportedly work directly in P3Dv4.x include P3D SimDirector or the freeware (abandon-ware) Whisplacer

Both of the latter alternatives above have feature limitations which require extra work to implement a full set of placement and display options normally available via SDK BGLComp.

To implement a full set of placement and display options normally available via SDK BGLComp, one may need to de compile and/or manually edit / re-compile BGLComp-XML scenery library object placement BGLs which have been output by P3D SimDirector or Whisplacer ...as discussed here: ;)
