• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Default autogen location?

Are there any way in FSX via a tool or other method to identify the default autogen type used on your present location (lat/lon) in the FSX world?

Michael

Hi,

What do you mean with autogen type? The autogen is either linked to the photo scenery used or to the landclass texture.

Arno,

I mean autogen as used in the default FSX scenery, which I think must be the landclass texture.

Autogen as I understand it, are sort of 'regionalised' and 'grouped', but how can I know what exact group (type) I am looking at, when positioned (lat/lon) somewhere in the default FSX world.

Eg. Vegetation, as I am not really great identifying different trees by their appearance, how can I know what type I am looking at? Eg. Australian broadleaf and so on.

Hope this makes sense :)

Vogel,

Interesting, I will look into that, but will it also give me the Autogen 'type' like 'Australian broadleaf' and so on?

Thanks
Michael

No... But when you have the AGN file name, i think you can edit it in Annotator to see the GUID info you are looking for.

Ah, I understand it now. I think there is a bgl with the regions you can open in tmfviewer.

From a practical point of view the problem is as follows:

Creating a photoscenery airport you want to match some of the surrounding autogen.
Lets say you have a wood nearby, which also is in a portion of your photoscenery. You want to annotate this wood using the exact same vegetation on your photoscenery, but how do you know exactly what autogen to annotate the photoscenery with, so it matches the default wood?
Its easy enough to avoid mixing fir-trees with palm trees, but with other vegetation is not that easy to identify.

Hi,

In Scenery\BASE\Scenery you will find a BGL file called regions. If you open that in tmfviewer you can see how the regions have been defined and which region is in your area.

Based on the region you can then check the correct landclass texture in Annotator and see which autogen classes they use.

Yes, should be. What error do you get?
