• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Dynamic reflections (Dynamic Cube Map)

Hello guys!
Is there anyone who knows, and who can and want to help me with this question?
I want to set DYNAMIC REFLECTIONS for my windows on terminal instead of simple cube map.
How can i do that?
Thank you all in advance!

Dynamic reflections is controlled by the render engine, not material settings.

BTW does somebody know the line in the p3d.cfg enabling this?
The checkbox in the options does not show on my computer (v3.2 academic)

The option is not license specific... so if you don't have the checkbox... you're not running the version you think you are. Having any .cfg entry for that would be moot as your core sim code wouldn't look at it.

Actually I do have this version. Somebody on this forum suspected the option might depend on my graphics card's performance.
(It does render dynamic reflections in other games before anybody starts questioning that)

The slider is off by default, however I have seen environment generated reflections on my models while placing scenery in that configuration. I imagine you could find the .cfg line by running a search.

I added something guessed a few months ago which obviously didn't work.
I don't remember it exactly so now I don't know what to look for in the cfg and what not.
I found "DYNAMIC_REFLECTIONS=1" but I hink this is the guessed one

"DYNAMIC_REFLECTIONS=1"
That setting implies an on/off state for a value of 1 or 0 and I would be more confident if you'd had a zero to conform to Dynamic Reflections off. Why don't you just check your slider, make an edit to the .cfg and see how it affects the position of the slider?

Then your system likely is not powerful enough to support dynamic reflections in P3D. Regardless, LM has a forum of their own where experts might even have answers. It beats searching the web for big images of metal skinned planes laden terms like "pd3 dynamic reflections" with the relatively obscure modifier "no" when the hits are identical and crammed with images of Connies and B-58's reflecting dynamically.

I found the necessary line. Sadly it has no effect at all. :(
As long as I get a constant 60 fps even in crowded areas I don't think my system can be considered "not powerful enough". I could live with half.
I don't know how much power the dynamic reflections demand but I think it's highly inappropriate of a program to override my settings up to its own opinion.
an "opinion" is what a program should not have at all.
What comes next? Will I spawn with a different aircraft than I chose in P3D v4? :duck:

More likely it is a conspiracy against those who refuse LM support, but we'd never find out until you asked...or it simply could be difference in the definition of "crowded"...

You are referring to Drzewiecki Design NYC will full traffic AI, in a complex addon aircraft like PMDG NGX, taxiing at JFK at night with weather? I myself find my greatest loads when I am either working with visual effects or adjusting poly lines with InstantScenery 3, but that is my system. There are a great number of types of loads that are a response to compensate for the vast variety of system configurations and capacities, that is why there is not just one "simple/complex" slider. Your system appears to be uniquely capable of rendering 3d objects and not making dynamic adjustments to that render, I don't know these things well enough myself, but it is an observation based on the empirical data.
I have a strong belief that the P3D forum would provide valuable insight, I have read that LM loves to hear feedback from users. If it some sort of glitch or software fault you might even get support from them.

I'm just a "poor" student, I can'5t afford the latest graphics cards :p
I was actually talking about default terrain. It may appear ridiculous but for me not being a fan of over-complex scenery addons this is currently the most crowded area on my setup.
With this I have quite some power left which could be used for eg the reflections. At least I want to try that and I don't like at all that the program "knows it better".
I paid for the whole sim, I want the whole sim with all features. Maybe it won't turn out but as the end user I think that's up to my judgement, not the sim's.
So unless the "dynamic feature refusal" can't be suppressed somehow I can't call myself a satisfied customer.

I should consider this topic complete before I turn into ranting. Sorry in case I already did.
