• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Effect not showing

I've been reading about effects and attaching them to objects. As a test I tried compiling the Effects House from the FS9 AttachTool SDK and placing it in FS9. It already has a smoke effect attached to it so I would expect that to show. Any idea why it doesn't? I also tried making a light with the landing light effect attached to it. It exported and compiled OK but that effect didn't show either. The effects slider in FS9 is at max. The area I placed the house in doesn't have any excludes, at least as far as I know. Any hints?

Hi Sid,

Where did you place the object? If there is an exclude active in that area it will exclude the attached effect as well (this is a known bug).

Also, not all effects work in the scenery, some seem to be for aircraft only.

Hi Arno,

Happy New Year. :D

No, no excludes. I'm using the Effects House object from the SDK. It has a chimney smoke effect already attached, and I attached the vent steam effect as per the instructions. Here's the illustration from the SDK showing what it's supposed to look like in FS9. Neither effect shows for me.

I also tried creating a simple light pole and attaching the landing light effect. Also nothing showed. Could someone post a model with an attached effect that they know shows in FS9? I'd like to try it and see if it shows in mine.

OK, after reloading FS9 the vent steam effect appears, but not the chimney smoke. At least that's an improvement. :p

In the pic is a simple light pole I made with the landing light effect attached. It also shows, but I was expecting it to be a beam of light and not just a blob like the nav lights. Is there a light effect that will cast light on the ground, like the landing lights do?
