• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello everyone,

My name is Joey, I am new here but I have a proposal. One things that I have noticed is there are not really any GOOD tutorials (that I have found)
for making effects for msfs for the beginner. you must agree with me the more people we have making effects the better and more choice people have.
I am considering making such a tutorial any one that has anything to add (things that they find that helps them) I would greatly appreciate it. all credit will be given to authors this is Just going to be a more helpful guide for beginners. ( breaking things down Barney style if you will).
I will be posting this Tutorial on a couple of freeware sites such as AVSIM, FSIMZONE, etc

thanks for help guys/ gals

There is a lot of good info right here on this forum. Ablitos knows a lot. Also if you look at Stranger's post recently (Re: new effect) he posted a mini-tutorial on adding effects to AI aircraft. I have some notes on making passengers or scenery objects, etc, out of effects if you are interested in that. Good luck, I think a tutorial on the mechanics of making effects is over-looked. It would be very helpful.

I am more interested in the breakdown of each line, so that a person would know what he/she is editing or what this specific parameter does to the effect.

no offense to the post of "effects in laymans terms" which is a great Idea but you have a bunch of people adding random comments so you have to scan through everything, to get any info.
I have been working on this for a couple of months off and on. I am about 3/4 done and if you can read well then this will be easy to follow.
If you cannot read I suggest a tutorial on that first lol

I also have a couple of buddies in which we are working on a freeware program this will be a first. this program is going to let you easily edit, make and place your own effects in msfs. there are currently no programs that will let you create and place effects. other than Airfx which only lets you place their effects and is payware. hopefully this will be done soon, but I will still release the Tutorial for those who want to do it themselves :teacher:

I'll be more then happy to help. Just let me know exactly what your looking for. It says that your 3/4 done so if there are any parameters that you dont understand...feel free to ask.

I got your file, wow great tutorial, It explains some things I was not even sure of ypu should make it available here or somewhere for download. thanks a million

Here ya go.

It works, but as I mentioned in my e-mail, I am happier with the results I get by making regular scenery mdl's for my passengers and using mdl tweaker to apply conditions, such as time and distance. However some of the info might be useful for other items, such as flashing arrows or signs, scrolling text, etc.
Somebody smarter than me could probably get an animated effect out of it (like the chickens in fx_barnstorm)

Nice Job Arch. There is some thing i want to add and since a tutorial is in the works this would be helpful and isnt really stated anywhere. Even though its probably mentioned on this forum somewhere, alot of people always wanted to make light pools on the ground at night and there are several ways....1 by creating a plane and using a texture...or using an effect. In order for the texture to appear on the ground, you must add the Ground =1 parameter into the particle section of your effect....otherwise it will stand verticle.

Not sure if this is added to your tutorial but thought i would add it.

Dave
