• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Effects Tutorial

Hello,

While trying to solve an "effects-problem" I spend a full day reading all relevant entries, both here and under GMax.

I followed with interest the discussions of 2005 and 2006, where people struggled with the basics of the FS2004 Effects SDK.
- Many threads were never finished and questions remained unanswered.
- Others came to good conclusions and promises were made to collect the findings in tutorials. They never appeared or vanished.
- Several members seemed to develop into real experts, but they do not come forward today, when (not surprisingly) the same old questions pop up again.

I really wonder, whether we newcomers still have to struggle with the content of the FS2004 SDK-documents, which seem to be complete but which are very poor in giving guidance and leave many questions open.

Or are there in the meanwhile tutorials or books available, which are so obvious that I do not see them?

sincerely

Helli

Hello

it was three months ago, that I wrote this posting.
And 296 readers have looked at it!!

Yet there was no response.

In the meanwhile I have continued with my search for reading and learning material on the whole subject of effects.

No results so far!

For me this is quite unbelievable. There are many tidbits around, small narrow and very specialized questions with even more specialized answers. But the whole picture is not available.

Are effects not important enough?
Or am I the only one who does not understand the obvious?

Helli

post scriptum:
in case that this second posting is read again by app. 300 people and nobody has an answer, I will give up.

hello helli
i'm sorry that i can't properlly help you because i only use fs10 and never used fs9

Or am I the only one who does not understand the obvious?

did you read the SDK documents? i learned fs10 effect by reading the docs and then going into the fx tool and changing/modifing the default effects.

~~Read documentation~~
~~Expirement~~

Hope that helps you some and forgive my feeble atempts at helping you.

P.S. this is the first time i read this post. i only joined this forum a couple week ago.

Hello Ronnie,

thanks for trying!

Well, what you are saying is totally right but also the crux.

The FS9-SDK for Effects is to my knowledge the only source of information (except the forum discussions of 2005 and 2006).

The general agreement is that the SDK is just a brief overview, not deep enough to be helpful.

Maybe in the FS10-case it is different.
I did not bother to check, since due to hardware constraints FS10 is pretty useless so far for me.

Thanks anyway for your opinion.

Helli
