• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Excluding LWM,Fills possible?

Hi I'm new arraound here and also new to this scenery design thing. But I've been hard working at it for the last week and thanks to the many wonderfull forums and tutorials on the internet I think I've learned a lot for sush a small time-span.

I'm currently on a personal project to make my add-on sceneries compatible. And am right now working on aerosoft gibraltar to make it work with UTE. The thing is I can preaty much do what I want for my self on this one, having spent many hours trying to figure it out. But because it involves modifing and using a UTE file I cannot share my work with those interested. This file beeing the LWM for the gibraltar and-then-some area. Now I know that as for changing the coast line I dont have to mess with this file (I decided that the easiest way to make my little project was to keep the Gibraltar peninsula from the aerosoft scenery deleting preaty much every other BGL from the scenario that didn't concern this area, and keep UTE for everything else. I did this because other conpromisses seemed to much work and mainly because I didn't know wich source was the most correct for the area none of the two scenarios agree very well with a calibrated Google map of the area, and sticking with the UTE view of things wold have meant to relocate the Airport and every other object I wanted to keepfrom GiB. scenario) to alter the coast line I could have simply added some land fills and then Gib. scene. LWMs would have been drawn over and no more UTE LWMs for the area. And I did do this at first until I realized I had another problem. Even though UTE's water LWMs were no longer beeing visibly drawn beeing in a lower scenery priority amd my new BGL with some land fills toke care of missing land for my Gib scene coast line. The fact is that UTE's LWM are still active underneat it all and are cliping about half the GIB. hill Mesh. Now like I said I was able to fix this by editing the UTE file on sbuilder and making a 4x6 LOD13 hole in the right place in it's LWMs. But not only this I what I think to be inelegant. It also makes the sharing of my fix a copyright problem I belive.

So now that I explained in to much detail (I know) why I need to exclude those LWMs is that possible?

Thank you for your time.

Hi lxsapper.

In FS2004, the flattening of the mesh from land-water-masks cannot be undone or excluded.

You would need to find the offending BGL, and rename it as "whatever.bgl.old" to deactivate it.

Then you can write a new LWM BGL to replace it.

There was a concept for the default files to release a small tool that would remove the lwms from a LOD 8 cell within the default hp file. This way the edited default files would not be distributed just the tool for users to accomplish the edit themselves. In principle, such an approach could be used with the UT files. I don't think any scenery was ever released with this tool. The concern is that it would be too easy for a user to make a mistake trying to use the tool.

Thanks guys,

now I know what I already suspected, Major bummer.
I already found the ofending file. Unfortunatly it cannot be excluded the area it covers is to big. I just made a hole in it. Im the area I needed. I gess if I hopw to distribute I must make add a toturial for users to alter this file them selfs. And Include the files that are original.
Thanks for the replies though.

Chears.

UTX is payware, so don't distribute the originals.

You could try to use LWM flattens to reconstruct the terrain... much like a topomap of elevation. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. SBuilder would probably be the best for this.

SBuilder also has a function to create tilted flattens out of mesh. See the help file for more info.

I don's want to sound ofensive. But I think you I eighter didn't espress myself right, or you didn't pay atention to what I wrote.

Never at any time did I say I was going to distribute files from UTE (It is UTE for FS2004 not UTX) on the contrary, I said I couln't share my files. What I did say is that I might distribute my original files and include a tutorial for the interested to modify themselfs the UTE file that needs modifying.
Once I'm sorry if I sound abrupt I certenly don't want to pick a fight with a forum moderator, but for both times you replyed I said one thing and you replyed as if I had said the other. I know My first post especially was long, but I think I didn't make that huge of a mistake building my sentences.

Anyway, now that I hope we are still friends. I think I know what you are sugesting, I was actually trying with this yesterday. But every time I compiled the BGL with a poligon flaten and I tried to set it's alt. to other than 0m I would get a CTD when loading the location. So if you can help me with this, or anyone I would really apreciate it.
