• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Excluding VTP

Hi

I want to exclude the default grass texture polygon around the runway at my airport and put down a new VTP texture. Is there a tool or method I can use to remove these kind of texture polygons?

DefArea allows you to make a VTP exclude, or when you want to place a new one at the same location, you can also use SBuilder or Ground2k4. These tools allow you both excludes and the drawing of new polygons.

Hello:

DefArea by Christan Fumey (who also wrote the Ground2k utility for FS8 and Ground2k4 for FS9 http://library.avsim.net/search.php...an+fumey&Sort=Added&ScanMode=1&Go=Change+View) is here:

http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=defarea20.zip&CatID=root&Go=Search

IIRC, (it's been years since I looked at this, but...) in DefArea one must "fly" (or "drive" a ground based specially built FS aircraft) along the desired plot of points while a timed logger captures coordinates.

If you're game for going "off-road" for a bit of "data capture driving" in FS, try the FS2004 Jeep ATV or FS2004 Roberts Racing Baja Buggy: :p

NOTE: Then one needs to assign a workable area layer number for output from DefArea to a FS9 BGL; possibly someone else here may recall what "layer number" to use for a VTP exclude if the default assigned number in DefArea was not updated between FS8 and FS9 ?

IMHO, an easier and more precise coordinate vertex-based "click as you go" method could be had via SBuilder for FS9:

BTW: A summary of notable references on SBuilder for FS9 is here:

Yet another option which uses Google Earth via FSX-KML to get vertex coordinate data into SBuilder for FS9 is described here:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16937&highlight=Sbuilder

Info on FSX-KML is here:

Hope these ideas help ! :)
