• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Exclusion-Problem with Gmax/FS9

Hi,

looks like I can't reply to my own post on the avsim-forum.
Well never mind, maybe I'll get some feedback here much earlier.

Arno mentioned, that a bounding box will define
the exclusions in Gmax for FS9.

Though I already heard that it's not recommended to modify
that bounding box, I'd like to give it a try (in shrinking it),
as the Gmax-defined bounding box is as big as it deactivates
some scenery from another designer.

So here my questions.

How can it be achieved to modify the bounding box?
What tools can support that task?
Where can I found documentation about this?

Regards,

Papa

Hi there,

I recently created a bridge with Gmax 1.2 for FS9.
Everything seemed to be fine, execpt for some other
scenery beeing influenced, which however is more than
300m away from my scenery. There is absolute no geometry
in that area.
As Gmax doesn't offer any control about scenery-exclusion
(as far as I know),
how can I find out what had been excluded automatically
and how can it be modified.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Papa

Hi Papa,

Automatically all autogen objects within the bounding box of your GMax object are removed you can not do anything about that. But this is only a very local effect.

If you want to exclude other parts of the default scenery as well, you need to add an exclude command to the XML you used when you were placing your object.

Hi Papa,

Editing the bounding box would be done in the ASM files. You will find a BBOX section in there, where the size is given.

But, the only thing your GMax object should exclude automatically is autogen. Other addon scenery should not be affected. If that is true, something else might the problem.

Arno,

you were absoluty right
about supposing the bounding box wouldn't
be the problem.
I shrunk it down to idiotic small values,
just to see if anything changes.
But it didn't.

I now think it's more about the layers.
Most likely that missing scenery,
which is in fact a piece of road,
is on the same layer as the default-bridge,
that I replace.

Now I'll have to find out the relation
between Gmax and layers.
If there are any.

Any idea were I can find more info about that topic?

Do you mean you have made an exclude to remove a default VTP bridge? In that case such an exclude will indeed remove all objects on that layer in a certain LOD square.

GMax has totally no influence on this. It can not place obejcts at mesh layers or exclude them.
