• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

export error, missing file

I am trying, for a couple of weeks, to learn how to make a simple sketchup hangar and convert to an FSX object. While I had no problem (??) making the sketchup file, I cannot get the process through mdx to work

I've been able to save the skechup object as a collada dae file, import it into mdx, convert the jpg textures (3) to dds, and have generated a guid and name (not sure when this step should take place).

When I try to export the file to FSX mdl, I get the attached error message and an mdl file of size 0. I've searched the site, and looked through the manual repeatedly as well as the "common mistakes" files. Whether my separator is a comma or period, the same result.

The path to Xtomdl.exe is correct in my options. If I read the event log correctly, there is a file "Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken...." that is missing. I don't have a clue where to look, add, etc. that file.

It is impossible to underestimate my capabilities at the computer!! I have no doubt the problem lies between the very empty space between my ears..

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Gary

export error

Here is the event log as a txt file...I think it is more readable.

Even accomplishing this is a miracle for me....

Hi,

Do you have the most recent version of DirectX 9 (9.0c) installed? The error message seems to indicate that XtoMDL can not find a dependency it needs from DirectX.

Been crushed at work for a few days. . I thought I had current version...but maybe just whatever installed with the 8800gt. I do have most recent (3 days old) update of nvidida driver (same problem on earlier driver)\.

According to the Nvidia control panel, it says version 9.0 ---not c

Athalon 3800x2
sgb mem
8800 gt 512
258.68 driver
old, runs on electricity tho....!!!

Is directx bundled with the nvidia driver, or do I search for that elsewhere?

Sorry for the low level of insight this aging brain offers.

Gary

I found direct x on the Microsoft site.

It appears that I am a couple of versions old. Does anyone know if I can go directly from 9.0 to 9.0c, or must I already install intermediate updates first (a, b)

Thanks, Gary

New fuel for my angst. According to the MS site, not only is there a June 10 update for the Direct X, but also for the SDK

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=3021d52b-514e-41d3-ad02-438a3ba730ba

My current uses are FSX, ADEX, AIFP and, trying, to use mdx, and ultimately library maker (which I've used in the past).

Is the SDK update a good/necessary idea? And must I really uninstall the old one then reinstall... We computer mortals shudder at such thoughts when a program has actually been running! I suppose that means I have to get the paths re-entered for all of the programs.

Gary

Hi,

Just the end user file should be fine. You only need the SDK if you want to develop your own applications using DirectX. The DirectX version is not related to your video driver, you need to install it separately.

Thanks for the suggestions. An IT guy at work suggested I "run" dxdiag before I do any install, and sure enough I already had 9.0c installed. Nvida control panel only reported it as 9.0, but dxdiag reports DirectX 9.0(c) (4.09.0000.0904)

Any other suggestions??

Thanks, Gary

There are multiple versions of DirectX 9.0c, so I would still try to update to the latest version. The error of XtoMDL indicates you do not have the right version now.

I'll try tonight.

I want to tell you all how much I appreciate your help, and your incredible contributions to this hobby/addiciton. Arno, some of the tutorials you've done are incredible, not to mention creating these programs.

The support here, as well as from Jon and the ADEX crew and from the AIFP sites (the only ones I've bothered so far) are incredible.

I'll be delighted if the problem is the DirectX version. It rarely is--instead it's the result of me mixing up the enter key and the escape key somewhere along the way....and you good folks are kind enough to bail me out!!

Gary

Thanks-success

After clean boot, a few other failures, I downloaded and ran the end-user runtime. The version of DirectX is identical, according to dxdiag, but the result is not.

Worked perfectly, converted through library maker and ADEX, and my little building appears just as it looked in sketchup. Now to become a bit more sophisticated.

Thank you very, very much

Gary

Glad to hear it is working now!
