• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Exporting issue with latest version of MCX

Hi,
After upgrading to the latest release of MCX (version 1.7.0.0 18ea0210 DEV 2023-10-22) I am unable to export a model that exported fine in the previous version of MCX (it also exports fine in version 1.6.0.0 96a6c68 DEV 2022-01-15 which I keep on my HD as a backup).

I have tried exporting it as an FSX and a P3DV4 model and get the same errors.

Thanks

Appears that the correct SDK is missing or within options in MCX is not pointed to the right SDK.

No, the SDK is found correctly. Seems to be something in the X file. Does this happen with any model you export or just this one?

Hi, sorry for the slow response.
It seems to be any of the models in this specific series (it is a group of AI models, all variations on a theme).

Weirdly I can export the .X file directly and import that into an older version of MCX where I can export it as a MDL file.

I am attaching the original model and the modified .X version, hopefully that will be helpful. The modified version has LODs reduced and some parts removed from the original model but I get the same error if I just import the original and try to export it with no modifications.

Thanks

Gavin

Ok, I'll try to reproduce the issue on my machine.

Arno,
I double checked and it is something specific to that particular family of models. I have loaded other FS9 models into the latest MCX and they export fine to FSX and P3D format.

Hi,

I have been able to find and fix the bug. So in the next development release it will be working OK.

The problem was in the name of a custom animation, which contained an invalid character.

Thanks Arno,
What was the animation? I'll check on it as I'm not sure why it would have an invalid character.

It was actually in my code for the naming of hte custom animations. Due to a bug the variable name of the animation was not returned correctly, but instead a floating point number was returned. That then caused invalid frame names in the X file. But all was my bug :), nothing you have to worry about in your model.

Glad to know I didn't mess up (for once)

Thanks Arno

I had the same issue with exporting. Funny thing is it was working fine until it didn't. The only thing that changed was a Windows update, Might need to check after each major Windows update
