• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

First steps: problem building a horse track

Hi,

I like to make my hometown a bit more realistic and did my first steps with "modeling" a horse race track. That's the way I did it:

1. I drew a polygon and tagged it with "LandClassPoly_Mixed_Forest".
2. I drew a polygon within this forest and tagged it with "Exclude_LandClassPoly_Mixed_Forest".
3. I copied this Polygon and tagged it with "LandClassPoly_Grass".
4. A drew a polygon within the grass polygon and tagged it with "Exclude_LandClassPoly_Grass".
5. I copied the same polygon and tagged it with "LandClassPoly_Tall_Grasses_And_Shrubs".

There are 4 other pieces in that wooden area, which I did the same way. So my kml looks like:

So it should look as to be seen on the Google Earth picture, right?
(dark green: forest; light green: grass; blue: tall grass)

The problem is, it doesn't in FSX. If I start a flight over my hometown, only the forest is to be seen.

If I pause FSX, open scenery library and press ok, the scenery is loaded again and the forest and grass are shown.

But the tall grass in the middle never appears.

Have I done something wrong? I hope you can give me a hand. FSX_KML is such a nice tool!

Thanks in advance
Ciao

Think you need to make use of the polygonhole tag
what i'd try do under google earth, - make the track part using a polygon with the tag landclass_grass and then make another to fit the inner edge of the track and Tag it with the Polygonhole tag,

What should happen is that the area in the centre of the previous polygon would be cut out leaving you with the track itself, leaving you to place another polygon with the trees in the inside.

then what i'd do is create another polygon with the landclass of your choice in the centre.

I'll Post an example soon.

Hi,

I think you are nearly there...

Instead of

2. I drew a polygon within this forest and tagged it with "Exclude_LandClassPoly_Mixed_Forest".

and

4. A drew a polygon within the grass polygon and tagged it with "Exclude_LandClassPoly_Grass".

If you had said tagged with PolygonHole, I think it would have worked.

As far as I know, the excludes are used to remove 'existing scenery attributes' - you may need to re-read how they work...

Bottom line, if you want to 'stack' polygon shapes, you will need to cut polygon holes for each of the layers that you stack.
(Until MatthewS gets the auto cookie cutter code working :D )

Also, you 'can' possibly simplify the track by making a single polygon shape.

This is the method I used to do my 'chalk cuttings'

Writing on the ground

Basically, it goes like this....

To get an 'o', imagine writing a 'figure 8', but when you do the 'second loop', you do it inside the first one....

Confused ?

OK
Start at the top - outside edge...

Clockwise, draw down till you reach '3 oclock'...
Now do a straight line 'inwards' till you reach the inside edge of the track.
Now trace the whole of the inside edge anticlockwise till you reach '3 oclock' again...
Now you can finish off the remainder of the outside edge by going back out again, and then completing the outside edge clockwise again...

This way you only need a single shape, and you don't need to go cutting more and more polygonholes everywhere...

Good luck,

B

Hi,

thanks for your help, mates! :) After following your hints and doing some trial and error I finally found the problem. :)

Well, to be honest, there were a few mistakes:
1. The order in my kml was upside down.
2. I used Exclude_landclasspoly_blabla instead of polygonhole.
3. I did not cut out the whole thing at first using "Exclude__everything".

I reworked it and tataaa ;), it works. Here's my little horse race track. I still have to find out the proper "materials" to meet real life colours, but it already works.

Once again, thanks for your kind help and for this great tool!
