• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

It looks great and visually that would certainly work as a solution. The only problem I can foresee is that the default textures might look weird.

Is there a tutorial somewhere that explains how to work with these triangles?

My solution is to make a big water cover the that hill. Make it large enough and gentle slope to the actual sea level miles away from the shore line.

It looks great! But I'm not sure I would want to use it as a solution because the sea being high like that will cause the radio altimeter to show a false height on approach. Still, I'm curious to know how you did it. I can't get anything other than a vertical cliff. Can you explain?

Well, as I said, this is not a good example,(this is shoreline so things don't work well) but this is how it works. Look at the ADE example in my post above. As you draw the triangles, tag them flatten mask(however that goes). Check the Edit Individual Points box. In the above example, the points next to the airport are set at airport altitude, and the points in the ocean are set at "0".

This works better where all points are on land. then you can put a land class over the triangle.

I'm sorry for late reply since I cannot find this thread.
I make a plane in Gmax and modified it to match the height of the clift generated by FS engine.
Look at my Samui Project. It is gmax water over real water in FS9.

You still can see the real terrain on the right side shore which I haven't correct that yet. The gmax plane floating about 10 m. above sea level and the runway height is 17.6 m. Gradual sloping make you cannot see the height of that. Moreover, there are still waves moving to the shore line like the real thing. Set alpha channel in the texture make this possible.
You don't fly near the ground at this place anyway, do you? So it is just illusion to the eyes. The runway is still on its' height. This is the only solution that I can think of. Other flatten can worse things since there will be more rough edge cliff here and there.

I don't think radio altimeter in flight sim engine will detect "height" from Gmax. Just simply fly your airplane to the buildings. It will tell you the terrain showed by flight sim engine only. Don't worry about that.
