• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I need help!! I've just created two afcads for carriers that are about 60 miles apart, and I've noticed that the flattens I put in first with flattex directly to the scenery cfg and then another program that makes the flatten bgl's only seems to allow one of the carrier area's to flatten. In other words if one is flat, and I fly to the other one, it's sitting on a mountain of water. Can anybody tell me how to get both flattens to work at the same time, because I plan to place more carriers and I'd like to get a handle on this problem now, before I go any futher. Hope to hear from someone soon!!!

Hi AJ

I'm afraid you have hit the 'hump'. I am going to assume that you have put parking spots on both carriers with afcad because the end result of that is the hump you describe.

In order to prevent this happening you need a specific type of afcad file, that is a second afcad for each carrier with a separate ICAO code. That consists of an apron, at sea level, which is at least as long as the aircraft carrier though better somewhat longer, I usually go for around 1000 - 1800ft, and around 800ft wide, I have found one place where a width of greater than 800ft was required but it is normally sufficient. That apron can be of concrete, it won't show, but again better to be of a non material (that is not an option within the afcad program it has to be done another way).

The 'trick' with this one is where it is placed. You will need to make a new folder. In FS9/Addon Scenery make a folder called 'Top Level' and inside that make another folder called 'scenery'. Copy the sea level afcad into that scenery folder. When next you start FS you will need to activate that folder in the scenery library, it is a requirement that this scenery is at the top level, above any other scenery that the contents may apply to. When first activated it is at the top of the list, as you may eventually have other files in here, as I have, you will find it easier if every time you install more scenery you simply move this one back to the top. That deals with the hump.

Just so there is no confusion, the 'apron' I referred to is an apron taxi link, the green one in the afcad program, not a polygon. If you have trouble getting a feel for the length, then run FS, start the afcad prgram and link it to FS. Make your new afcad by first putting in a runway, lets say 1800ft in length centred on the centre of the carrier deck and aligned with the ship's hull. Now put in an apron taxi link from one end of the runway to the other, straight down the centre line of the runway, make that apron link 800ft wide and using concrete as the material. Now delete the runway as it's no longer required. Make sure the altitude is set at sea level and save the file.

Thanks!!!

Thanks Grant for the info on how to "Get over the hump!" :) It worked out great, and my Carriers are happy too :) :)
