• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Flatten question - end user?

If I remove the default flatten area for my airport from the FL927170 file so I can generate a new flatten bgl, how do I translate this change to the end user? Do I send the updated FL927170 file to them as well as my new flatten file BGL?

If I create a new one with, lets say, Flattex or FSTflatten, and create a Flatten.bgl file to put in the scenery folder of the add-on will this override the default flatten?

Just a little confused about how to get the flatten I want into the final product and to not disturb the end user's original files etc...

I am going to give my preliminary scenery files to a friend for testing and I want to make sure I am not corrupting his system and that he sees what I see on my system...

Hi,

It's not a good policy to modify the original files.

If your scenery works well in your computer without such a modification, certainly will behaviour properly in your friend's computer.

José

My concern is that I was having issues with the default flatten as well as the default AFCAD file. I may try to find a way around it....

But, I just loaded the scenery files for my new scenery on a different computer and my flatten file I created as well as my exclude file but are not working on the new computer...I have trees in weird places....it works on my main computer...wouldn't that suggest that the default flatten and / or exclude is overriding my files?

You should be able to overwrite the default flatten without too much trouble, there are only a few cases in which you can't get around editing the default files. But this should not be such a case.

Agree the ideal situation is if your new flattens can coexist with the default ones. Unfortunately, in many cases the default flattens are too big, causing a problem when higher LOD mesh is used. In this case, the only realistic alternative, if you intend to release the scenery into the wild, is to replace the entire LOD 5 default file with one that you make, asking the user to backup the default file and remove it, or provide an installer which can do it for him. Sbuilder can append all the original flatten file, but that probably isn't appropriate for a released file.

Of course, this doesn't solve the problem of two developers releasing flatten replacements for the same area. The fix for that I guess is FSX.
