• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v3 Flickering Intersects

Hi,

After exporting a large model in native FSX format (for backwards compatibility) I ended up with some intersecting parts terribly flickering in P3D v3 while it all shows OK in FSX.

I also checked models I exported earlier and didn't find problems with intersecting meshes.

So my question: where is the cause for this? Might it be the material? The mesh rendering order?

I wouldn't like to connect all the parts to prevent intersection as this would double the number of polys.

Thaks in advance for any help.

Do not know the reason and never had it before. I make my models with Sketchup and I have no intersections in them. If I texture a face and some part is hidden behind another face, I expect it would impact fps and useless drawing of faces with textures. Maybe I'm wrong, but I want to make all models clean.
Do you have a picture which shows the problemß

As you see even the corner around the windows is flickering. Nothing intersects there.
The rest is mostly all the details, where the intersections were made to save vertices. Connecting all these would result in way more polys which are the actual performance killers.

(btw it's made in Blender in case it helps)

I had the same thing. A poly behind another by about 0.3m flickered in p3d from about 20m away when in fsx it displayed fine. Blender also, but I think its p3ds graphics engine. I had to cut it out.

It's just weird because these models below work perfectly fine in both sims despite the intersects:

I made them in SketchUp back then and I think the distance of polys behind each other is even worse than the ones of the Guayaquil Tower...
