• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Flight Simulator Airliner

Dear Flight Simmers, Developers, and Enthusiasts,

Flight Simulator is the most popular simulator game on the market. The franchise has been around for over 20 years, and has evolved from a line on a screen to a near perfect 737 cockpit complete with passenger ambiance. Unfortunately, after the closing of Aces Studios of Microsoft, the Acceleration Expansion Pack for Flight Simulator X was and will be the last service pack for that franchise.

I think we all can agree that we want the flight simulator idea and games to continue to progress, to get better and better, with more features and better technology. We want the virtual world to be made of satellite ground, better and more realistic airports, and high definition aircraft. That would be the dream flight simulator.

So…I guess I don’t mean to speak for the Flight Sim Community, but I will. I think that it is time for a new and better flight simulator, and we are calling all developers, programmers, and artists to the development of a new flight simulator, Flight Simulator Airliner. A packet will be coming out soon to explain the details. Please reply with your ideas besides the ones posted. Also, developers and programmers please reply if you have interest in the project.

Thank You,
Andrew B.

Here are some tentitive ideas. Please feel free to add more.

• Scenery
o Scenery will be downloaded via google earth, via the google earth sdk and api (maning photo real satellite imagery everywhere!)
o Buildings (“Autogen”) will be also downloaded via google earth, and their 3-D buildings technology
o Default airport buildings will be place in position at all airports.
• Aircraft
o All default aircraft will have the “PMDG like” systems, and will include the 737-3,4,5,6,7,8,900, prop planes, and the emb series. More can be added.
• Flight Dynamics
o Aircraft and scenery will react with the weather engine, airport conditions, and others.
o Flight Dynamics will be true to life, with wing flex, ice conditions, and real turbulence.
• Weather and Time engine
o The weather will include high definition clouds and rain, and will include real world weather.
o More to be worked out with weather.
• Vatsim Integration
• Virtual Financial integration
• Passenger and Crew engine
• More Features as users suggest.

Thanks!

Hi,

I think FSX did not yet reach the end of its life, we can still learn much more about it and make even better addons. So I don't feel an urgent need for a new sim yet (although one should come in a couple of years).

For the ideas you mention in this post, I feel the focus is too much on commercial airliners. What about the nice VFR and bush flying?

Also using Google Earth images and buildings. I am not sure about that, you often see the images are of very different quality, plus it makes it very hard to do seasons and night. A more procedural approach making the terrain as FS uses makes much more sense. And for the buildings from Google, they are not optimized that well for realtime rendering, so I am not sure if that would perform good. Also I am not sure if you are allowed to use that kind of data in such a way (unless it is a Google Flight Simulator maybe).
