• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello.

Can i use this program for "FS9" ?
Which version do i have to use ?

Cheers.

In English please. Yes, you can use FSSC for FS2004, but I recommend you rather use gmax which is bundled togethet with flight simulator, on cd1(i think that english version has it on cd1, mine is on cd4...). There are tutorials and forums for gmax, some you can find even here.

Hi "Pixel" i am used to use "FSSC" to make my ground and taxiways with this program.

But do you mean that you create taxiways en ground with "gmax" and
export them in "FS9" ?

Thanks for your quick response . :)

No, actually GMax and FSSC are different kinds of tools. GMax is for creating objects only. Of course you could create a whole scenery within GMax, export it as a mdl and compile that with BGLComp.
But I'd prefer to use a visual scenery creator, where you can import a map of the airport and position the objects like in a CAD-program.
You might be interested in SceneGenX, a freeware-program, which is a little more complex than FSSC.
GMax is perhaps the most difficult tool for beginners, because it's originally a professional program (one may correct me in this) - I didn't think I would be able to understand it, but I tried it step for step and it is great!

It's always the question, what you want. If you just want to create an apron with runway and taxiways, you could simply start with AFCAD2. ;)

Well i am a "mechanical engineer" and used to programs like "gmax"
"3dsmax" and all products of "Discreet" and "Autodesk".

I actually want to give support for people who are interested in learning
these programs.
Want to make "Video Tutorials" for people who want to learn these programs
and put them on my internet site.
Starting out with "gmax-tutorials" and then start from scratch that people
also learn the basics of "gmax".

But reading your post there is no other option then to switch
to "Airport for Windows" with "SceneGenX" and then create my ground
scenery for "FS9".

Will download this program and get to work.
"FSSC" does not support "FS9" it is a pitty.

Well computers and designing the "Never Ending Story".

Want to thank you for your response. :)

FSSC actually works with fs9, because fs9 is (almost) downwards compatible with fs2002, for which fssc was originally written. If you just want to make jetways, taxiways, and runways, looking like fs9's default, then use afcad(find it at avsim)

Thanks "Pixxel"

Will grab me that program "afcad" and figure it out how it works.
Shall give "FSSC" another try (i like the interface) and do some designing
with it and then export in "FS9".

Much appreciated for your response. ;)

If people are interested in learning "gmax" lett me know.
Will start from scratch.
Can make "video tutorials" and publish them.

Cheers.

I agree with the suggestions given before. FSSC will still work for Fs2004, if you know the limitations. For example you can not make startup positions that show in the menu and mixing XML and FSSC scenery is also not a good idea.

So if you want to work with the Fs2004 standard, please forget FSSC and use AFCAD2 (or SGX, but I prefer the interface of AFCAD). For the 3D objects GMax is the best choice, but it is not really suitable for ground polygons, runways, etc.

If you have no problem with using the Fs2002 style techniques, you can still use FSSC or Airport for Windows. But in that case I prefer the interface of FSSC.

Hi "Arno"

This forum "Rocks". ;)

Quick responses and good information.

I will practice with these programs and find out what the differences are and
will stick to "gmax" for the objects.

Thanks very much.

Sorry, I misunderstood you... :o ;)

As you could see, I'd be one of the first to be interested in a good tutorial about GMax :D (although I've learned pretty much in the last months).

I'm looking foreward to your work progress. ;)

Well "Thorsten" all advice is welcome.

Right know i am building a web site specially for "gmax".
Tutorials will be available for download in video format.
Takes a couple weeks and then i will publish my first tutorials.

If the website has enough content people can create accounts.

Right now signing up is not possible but will be enabled soon.

Cheers.

I am sure it's not only tutorial in Gmax that could prove interesting .I mean when you first start creating scenery you find your self searching for a lot of programs without knowing what they can do and their limitations .
for beginners would be really good to have some kind of guide explaining what's the programs you can use For making different parts of airports with their Advantages and Disadvantages or limitations of those programs . I know they are some tutorials explaining this but they are outdated & it could be really helpful for beginners [as me ] .

BTW I hope I am not way off topic

Hi "Andrew"

You are right about that.
Designing scenery is a very complex issue because you have to use different
progams.

Maybe someone can make a tutorial about that or clear some things up.

My site will be a support only for people who whant to learn designing in "gmax".

Cheers and hang on.

If I find some time, I certainly plan to write more tutorials. But the only problem is that time is a bit limited and that I also want to work on some new tools :). So don't expect them too soon.

Yes please, can you contact my private e-mail and then we can go public after a format is established. I have quite a few others in our VA who would be intersted in tagging along.

Hi epker, I know this post is over a year old, but I am a new member seeking for assistance in scenery design and creation. I have little background on gmax/3dsmax, but rather proficient with AutoCAD. I love 3d modelling but never had a good training for it, so if you still would like to provide support for peopel who are interseeted, please let me know.

Also I am looking for someone who can assist in helping me with AFCAD creation.

Cheers!
