• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have just installed the FS2004 gamepack, but on attempting to export a model I get this error:

This is the model summary information:

Any ideas?

A bit further ...

Which contains:

Code:
 Directory of G:\GMax\gamepacks\fs2004\plugins

22/06/2013 16:45 <DIR> .
22/06/2013 16:45 <DIR> ..
24/11/2003 08:29 167,984 FSModelExp.dle
20/01/2004 16:41 1,024,000 makemdl.exe
18/11/2003 08:42 109,126 makemdl.parts.xml
               3 File(s) 1,301,110 bytes
               2 Dir(s) 173,520,424,960 bytes free

I am completely lost

I think to remember that this happened if You have too many triangles or one that is to complex. Sounds familiar, but I cannot remember exactly what it was. May be it was something with glas or unions.
I do not remeber, too Long ago.

I would be grateful if some kind soul would examine the attached FS2004 GMax file and tell me why it won't export.

Your box is too small. Try putting a larger box around it and apply a transparent material to the outer box - or just add some geometry like the rest of your PAPI light, legs, etc.

I now have a .mdl file. How do I tell GMax to save the asm files?

Wiki was my friend :)

I created a makemdl.cfg and it saved the asm files.

Sorry, I need more assistance :o

I edited the asm file to add the separation planes and it compiled in BGLC-9 without errors :)

I renamed the extension from bgl to mdl, but, neither ADE nor MCX can read the file :(

Could some kind soul please check the attached asm file.

I did this years ago and it worked but I think I just compiled it into a library and placed it with an XML placement script using coords that I got straight out of the sim in slew mode.

I get some errors if I try to open the .mdl in MCX, "Warning Unsupported command Tag in line 28" and another one just like it for line 0. The model shows up however, but I modeled the VASI boxes with legs, etc. I don't see the actual light boxes in MCX. It'd take me a week long refresher course to have the first clue what I'm looking at in your .asm so I'll put mine up instead and maybe you can compare my .asm to yours :) .

I realised where I was going wrong. The _0.asm is an include file to the main asm, I was compiling only the _0.asm.

I finally created a valid model, put it in a library and placed it with Instant Scenery. It was visible in FSX :)

Unfortinately it will display only with IS loaded. With only the placement bgl and library, nothing is visible in FSX

Did you do anything to it with MCX? It has to be an FS2004 native model I think, so just compile the BGLC_9 .mdl into an FS2004 style library if you did otherwise.

Let me see what happens if I try to place my old one in FSX, back in a bit...

Jim

EDIT: Mine works even after closing and restarting the sim without IS2 running - but it seems the glideslope may be a little low :o

Success :)

Lights become visible only at about 1.8 miles:

Glad you got it working :) . I had the same problem with the short visibility distance on mine BTW.
