• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I just wonder if it possible for you to implement, some new features to your great program ?

I could use:
  1. "photo-realistic" ground texture import (like from GE)
  2. Mesh editing (heights)

Greetings from Greenland,
Ulrik M

Great ideas... anyone else have any requests?

The current development "road map" is as follows:-

1.03 (to be released in the next day or so)
[ok] better handle tags in description field. Be less strict about "whitespace" and cr/lf
[ok] add more excludes to fsx_kml_tags.xml (see tags starting with "exclude__")
[ok] add support for moving kml items up/down
[ok] add support for moving kml items via drag drop
[ok] add support for creating new kml folder
[ok] create shapes in order they appear in the KML
[ok] assign UUID (starting at 1) to each shape in the KML based on its order in the KML
[ok] add output directory - write to it instead of default directory
[ ] add support for "holes" in polygons, eg making islands in rivers
[ ] add support for flight plan generation along polyline

1.04
[ ] add support for multiple tags per kml item
[ ] add support for tag parameters (eg elevation and freeway traffic data)

1.05
[ ] add support for placing FSX library objects either along polyline or at placemarks
[ ] add support for landclass tiles (ie calling resample.exe)

An INI file to configure the FSX and SDK paths, that may be different from the default.

It would be really handy if the program could remember the size (and position?) of its window between sessions. It's quite alarming when it opens maximised across three screens at 3840x1024(!) - and the default non-maximised size is way too small.

There is an issue over copyright with the use of images and other data derived from Google Earth - some more discussion of this in the documentation would be worthwhile.

Hi Chris.

Issues of legality or ethics concerning copyrights is something that can be discussed with the tool developer ( and/or Google ) via email. That is not a technical issue... and this scenery design forum is not the place for that discussion.

Take it up with Matt, or take it up with Google, but take it somewhere else.

If you read my post you will see that I'm not attempting to discuss it here - I merely posted a request for the documentation. And I am already taking it with Google.

I'm a little disturbed by your attitude but shall say no more here.

Having installed FSX and the SDK on a drive other than C, I whole-heartedly second this notion.

Also, would it be possible for the select lists in the Project Pane/Description field to be permanent selects instead of having to press F2? We're getting into nitpicky territory, I agree, but you asked. ;-)

Marvelous tool, btw.

Should be EXTREMELY USEFUL:
1. Editing mesh terrain (ground height hot-spots)
2. Placing objects along a polyline or spots (i.e. TREES, bushes, parked cars, fences, lights along streets, HOUSES...)
3. Placing objects inside a poligon with specified density (and eventually w. specified altitude) (i.e. TREES for FORESTs, boats ....)

Congratulations for your incredibly useful work!!!!!!!

Textures?

How about the texture import item on the wish list?
Could a tool be developed to grab images from the image cache in GE?
If there is a copyright problem with images from GE, then why not from NASA Worldwind, which to the best of my knowledge, lacks copy restrictions? I have done some photo scenery for my own use, but it is very time consuming. (screenshots from worldwind, photoshop compositing, phototerrain processing to texture files) I would love a tool to automate the process a bit.

Grab images

Hi,

You can install manifold toolbar to grab and cache image tiles. Sbuilder for FSX implemented this feature and it's very useful.

It would be a good idea for FSX KML do the same thing only if the program had the possibility do draw lines and polygon, too.

I dont want to miss in the next release...

...a graphial preview or a thumbnail for landclasses. Such a thing like a cataloge for landclasses would be very handy, especially for noobees like me =o) I'm getting familiar to the FSX-landclass-name-conventions slowly but often end up with "Damn, must be some other landclasstexture down there".
If there allready is such a landclass-gallery anywhere i appreciate you to link it in a reply.

hi Tomcat,
You might have a search for this :

Good point, bertvk. In EZ-Landclass-folder there is a folder called Landclass Gallery and it contains a file that sounds promising : "Texture Gallery CEE8 (FSX).raw". But i can not get it opened and it seems a little too small for what I expect from that file. Or am i wrong:confused:
Another file from that i was hopping to find what i was looking for is "Texture Gallery CEE8 (FSX).bgl". But actually it doesn't solve my problem too...only monocolored boxes. That is the reason why i never came to work with that programm. It just can't mess with FSX KML & GE in many points.
Thx bertvk for your input anyway!

Hi Tomcatt,
I think you might have used this util not in the right way, because testing it i have seen (Multi)Coloured boxes in FSX; please see the attachement.
Another file related to the same topic is "HS_FSX_Land_Class_Table.zip" by Holger Sandmann, October 31, 2006

Got it!

Thanks for your hint, bertvk! I've finally found what i was looking for. And, for sure, thanks for your work Holger! Must have taken you some time to get this done.
