• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 FSX model > FS9 model - texture options

I've found the MCX a great tool to convert my FSX models into FS9 models. I think I'm missing an important point though.
If I save the model as an FS9 MDL I can still see the FSX material settings in MCX, even after re-importing it into MCX. Is there a way to tell MCX to show the FS9 material settings, which are unlike the FSX materials?

In this case I need to disable the 2-sided option (which does not work in FS9 if I'm not mistaken) and remove the shadow, which does not work after I saved it as an FS9 MDL.

Are these things possible with MCX?

Hi Thorsten,

ModelConverterX will always show the same material settings, which are indeed almost identical to the FSX options. The exporter (in this case for FS2004) should take care to translate the options to the right commands for that format.

I would have to check, but I think the FS2004 exporter should support the double sided option already (it needs to become part of the material name). For the removing of shadow I think there is no option in the MDL format itself, besides the kind of tweaking we did in the past with MDL Tweaker.

Thanks for the reply, Arno. I was away for some time, I'll take a look into it. I guess I can use MDLTweaker after MCX to remove the shadow - will give it a try.

In Over My Head

Hi, I'm trying to simulate the big bone yard at Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona. I'm using SAMM, and Instant Mission Maker.

I have a whole bunch of FSX .mdl files I'd like to convert to FS9 .mdl files (because SAMM doesn't use FSX .mdl files) but I can't figure out from the FAQ the manual, or from the GUI on MCX exactly how to do it. I've figured out how to import the .mdl files but not how to convert them.

I am not a programmer, just too much of a stickler for detail with a computer that has limited memory. :D :banghead:
