• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX no longer loads

After attempting to follow the instructions for FSX KML and constructing a polygon, I placed the resultant file in the 'Scenery' folder of 'Addon Scenery'.

Unfortunately, now FSX no longer completes loading. The program will start to load, it will then update any scenery files (completes this process), then just hangs up.

So, all I am left with is the blue loading screen and an hourglass pointer.

I have tried removing all files created by FSX KML and FSX Planner. I have also deleted my fsx.cfg file hoping that would clear the problem.

Unfortunately, nothing has worked yet.

Anyone have any ideas?

If you have indeed removed every bgl file from FSX_KML and FSXPlanner, then you have ruled out bgl's from those two as the cause.

The only other bgl that I've seen lock up a FSX on load is a bad AI traffic bgl file. Those can do it, but it would be at about 97% (FSX loads AI last)

Be very very sure about what scenery bgl's you are loading. You could enter Scenery library and deactivate all non-stock scenery and then see if the sim will load.

If not, then something else is causing your lockup.

Mace - thanks for the advice.

After spending the last few hours pulling out what little hair I had left I have managed to resolve the problem.

I physically removed all addon scenery files leaving only an empty folder in the FSX directory. Deleted every single entry of FSX.cfg I could find, removed the polygons from Google Earth, etc etc and tried a restart after each step with no luck.

Searched the FSX forums on Flightsim.com and found a reference to possible bad log book files.

So I deleted the log book files from 'My Documents/Flight Simulator X' and tried a restart. It works again - life is good.

Then I cautiously returned all Add On scenery files and any .xml and .bgl files created with FSX Planner and Whisplacer and so far it is still working.

:) :) :)

Now - if I can just figure out how to use FSX KML properly I'll be really happy.

Back to the on-line instruction manual (which needs a bit of clarification in a few areas by the way).

:o

Remember to use TMFViewer to see how the stock data is arranged...

That way you can know what to exclude.

And your exclusions only need to TOUCH the polygon or feature you wish to exclude. So if you have a stock road that you want erased, a simple square that merely touches one part of the road, will delete the entire segment of that road. Then you can proceed to place your new more accurate road in its place.

I always make ONE single kml file, so I don't have dozens of bgl's floating around in my scenery project. My exclusion polys go first.

I never used any tutorial but I have been using FSX_KML since last December or so, from the beginning. So I learned with a lot of trial and error and believe me I have seen weird looking scenery in the learning process...
