• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

FSX Planner won't save my xml files?

I have written a few FS2004 scenery projects and am moving onto FSX. I am being frustrated by PSX Planner not saving my XML files!

I click on the 'Save Airport XML' or Save Airport XML As' but nothing happens? I have been able to compile the BGL file but I can't retrieve a 'works in progress' xml file.

I am using Vista, FSX Acc, SP2 SDK.

Any clues?!

AAAGGHHH!!!

Problem was just a corrupt FSX Planner file. A reinstall fixed it and all works fine.

Sorry to bother you all!

Same Issue

I'm running FSX Planner on my Vista machine with the newest version of Java.

I want to first say that it is a great product! I can't wait to crack into some major airport overhauls. I already have got it to fix my nagging elevation error: FSXs original scenery had NASWF (KNDZ/KNSE) partially obstructed by huge berms because the two airports (North Whiting Field and South Whiting Field) are at different elevations and the connecting taxiway slopes up a hill. FSX, as far as I know, doesn't support airports which are not completely flat. I used Planner to provide for me that quick fix.

However, preventing me from doing some major work on Whiting Field is the issue that was described above: I can't save my XML work in progress!

I've reinstalled twice - and I can't get Planner to pull up a dialog box from the File Menu to:

Save As XML
Save XML
Load XML
Load BGL

It compiles OK, however each iteration I have to pull from the Find Airport dialog and start from scratch.
Any suggestions?

What happens when you select one of these options? (Does nothing happen?)

Also is there a log file in the log files folder of the FSX Planner directory?

Yes, nothing happens. The dialog box doesn't show up at all. I click on the option, and then the File drop-down menu closes. There is a log file, it mentions something about my inability to update FSX Planner with the Airline data. I'm not sure if that could be related.

Here's the text of the log:

ERROR: [Apr 3, 2008 5:06:25 AM]
java.io.FileNotFoundException: D:\Program Files\FSX Planner\conf\AirlineCodes.xml (The system cannot find the path specified)

Additionally, I just got the update to go through by manually adding a folder called /conf. I feel like the package on the website my not be a complete install.

Another update as I'm working with it:

The dialog box for selecting a background image also doesn't come up. When I hit the "Select Image" button, no mode for selection comes up. It looks as if the program is unable to pull up the standard Windows "Browse..." dialog box for specifying the locations of files.

The installer on the website is a full install. I have noticed that sometimes on Vista there are problems with the update process from within FSX Planner, which I believe might be to do with Vista's security features. I would suggest a complete reinstall of FSX Planner, to make sure that there are no corrupted files anywhere.
