• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Gamepack 2004 vs. Gamepack 2002

Hi Everybody !

Is there any body who can explain the differences between Gamepack 2004 and Gamepack 2002 for GMAX ?
Which one is better for FS2004 ?
I'm using gamepack2002 for FS2004 scenery. I don't have any problems until now. Do I have any in the future ?

The difference that I could find :
1.GM2002 exports directly BGL and no XML support
2.GM2004 exports MDL and then we have to compile it again.Has XML support

Hi,

They use a different BGL format. With Fs2004 a new BGL format was introduced and at this moment only the GMax gamepack is able to create it. This is indeed the format that you get when you use the XML as well.

The older formats are still supported, so that old scenery also works. This is why you have no problems with the Fs2002 gamepack. But I think it is better to switch to the new gamepack, if you don't design for Fs2002 anymore.

What happens in the future nobody knows of course, but it is most likely that the scenery you made with the new gamepack will work better in future version of FS. But we can only guess until this version is there :D.
