• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

GE Sync'd to FSX Position?

I guess I don't grasp the concept here at all and maybe it's right in front of me and I am making it more difficult than it really is.
All I really want to do is designate an upper left coordinate and lower right coordinate at an airport (as we could do with excbuilder V2 in FS9) to eliminate trees on the parking ramp and taxiways. The airport is a fictional one and so has no position to go to in GE. How do I sync up GE and FSX so I can do this? Or is this even possible with your program?

Hi,

You do not need GE but to make a search on this forum on "exclude" or "exclusion" to find the answear for that issue.

José

Yes you can do that. The tag is Airport_Backgrounds_ExcludeAutoGen.

I probably would use GE initially to make a rectangle area, but there is no need to be exact at first. Any coordinates nearby would do. All you are doing is using GoogleEarth to generate a basic .kml file. Coordinates don't matter at this point.

Then, when slewing in FS, I would copy down the exact coordinates for all corners of the area in which you want to remove the trees. This is where you need to be exact.

Replace ALL coordinates in your .kml file with the coordinates you copied down from slew mode.

I guess it would be useful if FSX KML could grab the current coordinates of the aircraft, (lon/lat/elevation) and paste it into the vertices grid for you.

Very Great Idea for FSX_KML Improvement

I fully agree!!! Copying and pasting the coordinates one by one (even using of the TCalcX) can be a daunting task for some projects (like placing traffic on a long road).

Yes, I think that might be useful.

But a designer would have to be careful about elevation...I say that because when I'm slewing, sometimes I don't pay much attention to what altitude I'm at...I'm focused on the lat/long.

Seems like in FSX if you slew, and touch the ground, you "stick" to the ground. That could cause a problem if you did not realize you contacted the ground.

Yes good point. I will add a checkbox (off by default) called "Paste Altitude" next to the "Paste" button. If the checkbox is set then altitude will be pasted in addition to long/lat. If not set, altitude will be 0.
