Glowing lights

Hello,

In FSDSV2 I was able to create "fuzzy" or "glowing" lights using the conventional sphere and using dots in the parts property. Now I have V3 and this is not an option. Tried to import from V2 but it displays as a ball. Read the SDK package which was mentioned in V3 for different displays but didn't come across what I was looking for. Is there something I can tweak, to get the dots back ? Thank you.

Hello again,

Guess I asked the wrong question before. How does anyone using FSDSV3 make their scenery lights? So far everything I tried looks like a colored ball. I can't duplicate what I was able to do in FSDSV2. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I am not really using FSDS3 myself, but let's give it a try. As FSDS3 also uses MakeMDL to create the object, I think you should be able to use the light options as described in the MakeMDL SDK. This means that you need to give your materials a special name and then they will show up as lights. For example by naming the material LIGHT_NAV.

I don't know how FSDS3 lets you name a material, but I guess this is your best try. Also, when using GMax the output created by MakeMDL is not correct right away, some tweaks of the final code are needed to activate the light again. It could be that you have to do this with FSDS3 as well.

This sort of works...it uses bright_ for the fixture and an almost transparent material on the ground, with no textures. It's done with FSDSv3.

Before I posted the question I went through everything I used to do with FSDSv2. I always used the light options, for beacons and blinking lights, so I could have them on or off for day or night etc. Beams still look the same, as does the ground circle which kjb was kind enough to show me. I have been through a lot of other forums and have as yet to see what I'm looking for. I'm just trying to get them to look like runway/taxi way lights.Tried a sphere, and reversed every other pologyn, with no luck. Abacus doesn't have anything for scenery lighting either. Thanks again Arno and kjb.
