• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

gmax half-an-install-problem

Hi, All

My friend who doesn’t speak English is having a problem with his gmax install, and it is a weird one.

He did a clean install of gmax 1.2, downloaded from Discreet. His machine DID NOT have gmax 1.1 installed.

His FS2004 export works perfectly. However, his FS2002 export gives him “can’t find MakeMDL” errors.

I gave him my FS2002 gamepack, just in case, but that gives him “mismatch” errors.

Did anyone experience similar problems?

Thanks

Fern

Hi Fern,

Are the two gamepacks installed correctly, as indicated in the Fs2004 GMax SDK documentation? Else they might not work together well.

Another option is the language setting, the Fs2002 gamepack requires the dot set as decimal character in Windows. In some countries the comma is used.

Comma vs Period

Hi, Arno

Once again, right on the nose! My friend asks me to thank you and I thank you too.

This can be a major problem for folks outside the area that uses the comma, and it already was in Cobol days (he's in Brazil), easy to forget. He had that problem three or four years ago when we started. This is a new machine for him with a new Windows install and, because the FS2004 export worked, it was easy to overlook.

Thanks!!!

Fern

It happened to me as well the first time I used GMax. Here in the Netherlands we also use the comma normally. Even for some of the tools I have made myself, like CAT, this problem appeared at first. It is just too easy to forget to test with all possible settings.
