• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Gmax Tutorial - Basics

Table of contents:
Lessons 1 - Introductory
Lessons 2 - Building a hanger with interior walls
Lessons 3 - Cutting / Preserving / Filling gaps
Lessons 4 - Animations / Texture Mapping

These tutorials do not include how to install the SDK for FS2004 or FSX and they do not teach you how to export to the game. These tutorials teach you important basics for modeling complex parts while using our simple parts on these lessons. We are building a custom animated hanger with interior walls for covering all the basics in model design. These tutorials will make you feel like pro in a few days! Click each picture to open in a new window. Use the tips below to help understand the examples instructions.

Hi Delivery guy...
Special thanks to you...my wait is over. This is what I was so long waiting for, you gave us just what we wanted. This is the best tutorial for a GMax beginner like me.

Hats of to you delivery guy...Thank you once again.

Dreamaero

Thanks

I was hoping a picture tutorial would be easy to learn....

Thank you very much for your posts.....I was not sure anyone would like it!

I still have a few typos i need to fix....Post any problems or typos here and i can help out!:D

Hi delivery guy...
A picture tutorial is the best way to learn. Especially for a newbie like me. I will cherish your tutorial with me forever...:)
Thank you very much for your hardwork... I will sure credit you and thank you when my first custom airport rolls out.
Actually, I am very new to GMax...I find it to be extremely complex. There are several things which I am still not accustomed to in Gmax.
I am designing my first custom airport for FSX, I was trying to add a Hanger with animated doors... I searched several tutorials on google but in vain. Your tutorial I am sure will definitely help me in my pursuit of achieving my goal.
I wish you provide some more interesting and valuable tutorials in Gmax...in the future.

I am finding Gmax quite complex to model especially after using Google sketchup.
I even tried to model an object in Sketchup and texture it in Gmax but did not succeed....
Your tutorial has given me some confidence...I will try reading your tutorial and practice it simultaneously... This will help me understand some more important aspects about Gmax.

One small suggestion: Could you please get a pdf version of your Tutorial, this will enable many of us to save a copy for future reference. Right now we have to rely over the Internet.
I visited your group on Facebook and found it really amazing.:)

Take care
Regards
Dreamaero:)

Could you please provide more technical tutorial rather than how to make..
Problem is that I cannot see anything in Gmax when selected. :D

Thank you for making this tutorial.

I am confused about how the roof appeared on the building between steps 10 and 11. Is there a step missing?

Twisterbox, press the x key to turn off the gizmos. Press it again to turn it back on.

bdf369, you are correct, that step is missing. For a simple approach, I would:

1. Create a box from a top view, the size of the roof. It should be the thickness of the eaves.
2. Make sure that the ridge of the roof is created by choosing 2 segments in the box creation rollout, in the desired direction.
3. Convert to emesh or epoly.
4. From an edge view, select the vertices that make up the ridge of the roof (at the center, only the top surface).
5. Move these up to create the sloped roof.

If you want the sloped edges of the roof to extend out over the building, a quick way to do that is to select the two polygons along one edge of the roof and Extrude them out. Do the same for the other side.

Hope this helps,
