• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Ground poly/line problem

I'm trying to recreate Santa Monica airport using ADE and ground polys and lines. However, my polygons are looking like this:

While in other places they look nice like this:

I'm placing a line (medium gray asphalt) on top of a polygon (dark grey asphalt). Both are placed in different layers, separated by 3 layers.

Also, when I compile I get a triangulation error window containing a large list of coordinates.

Ideas?

Todd, you haven't mentioned what version of ADE_GP you are using. The latest release is 0.0.96(e) and is available from the ADE_GP 0.0.96 thread.

I suspect the errant poly is of a form that can't be drawn, e.g., does it have a hole, and hence is generating the triangulation error message. What you are seeing is a partially-triangulated poly. Try simplifying that poly.

If that doesn't work, then I need your AD3 file in order to determine what's going on.

Don,

I was using 0.96(d) but just downloaded the new version. I've been getting random compile errors involving triangulation problems. However, I went back to all my polygons and just hit reset in the GP editor. I recompiled and got zero triangulation errors. Airport now looks fine. Wierd. I'm guessing if I ever adjust vertices of a polygon I should just hit reset in the GP editor window?

96(d) to (e) wouldn't have affected what you were doing.

I recompiled and got zero triangulation errors. Airport now looks fine.
You started with a very early versions of both ADE and ADE_GP. I suspect those early versions allowed you to create situations that couldn't be handled.

I'm guessing if I ever adjust vertices of a polygon I should just hit reset in the GP editor window?
That shouldn't be necessary. ADE_GP is now stable.

If you still have a version of the airport that wouldn't compile, I'd be interested in taking a look at it. You can attach it to a post or e-mail it to me at don at stuff4fs dot com.
