• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX:SE Ground poly problems

Don, I did some more thinking last nite...attached are two screen grabs, one in ADE179, and one in FSX-SE...take a few minuets apart....can you or Jon explain why the difference? I have the latest ADE 179, your latest update to GP and I have not added/changed anything to either. I cannot see how this is just my system...I can live with things but someone else surly must have run into this.
Sorry to be a pain in the a**.
Later,
Fred Z

The shot of the GP Editor shows the currently used texture "GP_Signs_White". While I don't recognize the second one (my backups only go back to 2018 whereas ADE-GP itself was introduced in the 2013 timefarme), I suspect it is a early version of the current texture that found it's way into your system some time ago and for whatever reason was not replaced. But, together, they explain the "V"/"CU" issue you were/perhaps still are experiencing

However, if you have followed my instructions several posts above, fully, the existence of the second texture shouldn't matter - so long as its not in the active scenery's texture folder. If it is in that folder, it would seem you have not copied the textures designated by ADE-GP at compile time into the texture folder associated with whatever scenery folder you are using.

Don, in my ADE 1.78 distribution (unmodified) his left image is in the Textures_Dpy_Base, Textures _Base_Mipped, and Textures_Base_NonMipped folders, while his right image is in the Textures_Dpy and Textures folder. There is a mismatch.

Hope this helps,

OK....maybe this is the answer....the GP texture files in ADE179 are dated 11/9/20 (the day I installed 179)....the GP texture files in the 'Texture' folder in FSX/SE are dated 9/8/13. I cannot tell you why...too far back for me even to try to guess. I am going to copy/paste the GP texture files from 179 to 'Texture' folder in FSX/SE and see if this cures things. I really do appreciate all you and Jon have done for the rest of the Sim world nuts.

Tom, the ADE-GP distribution file released by me does not include Textures or Textures_Dpy folders.. These are folders created by ADE-GP on initial running of ADE. If these texture folders do not exist on the user's system, the GP Editor creates them as copies of Textures_Non_Mipped_Base and Textures_Dpy_Base. This is so that subsequent releases of ADE/ADE-GP do not overwrite custom textures that may have been added by the user - which would (should) be in Textures and Textures_Dpy. This is explained on pages 212-22 of the ADE-GP User Manual.

If the ADE download archive includes Textures and Textures_Dpy folders, it shouldn't. But even if it does, most users don't seem to have been adversely affected.

Fred, in several previous posts in this thread I have advised you to update your Textures and Textures_Dpy from the files in the "..._Base" folders and to ensure that the textures specified by ADE-GP as having been used following compile are copied to the texture folder associated with the specified scenery folder. You have "sort-of" confirmed you followed my instructions. But it's becoming clear that you have followed your own lead instead.

I have no idea to what folder you are referring with "'Texture' folder in FSX/SE". I have told you on several occasions what files to copy where. Had you done so, this entire issue would be behind us. If you want further help from me, please follow my instructions. If you don't understand those instruction, then say so and I'll try to be more specific - though it's not clear how I could have done so in this case.

Don, the problem seems to be solved. If I have any future questions, I will try to be clearer and will try to follow everything as well as I can. This has been an area that I have very little knowledge about and again I appreciate all that you have done and the time spent to try and help.

Don, I can confirm that the last version I downloaded "whole" - ADE_178_Production.zip *does contain* a Textures folder *and* it contains a different version of that texture than those in the folders Textures_Dpy_Base, Textures _Base_Mipped, and Textures_Base_NonMipped. There is no Textures_Dpy folder though, so when you first use ADE-GP that gets a copy of the bitmaps in the Textures_Dpy_Base folder.

Hope this helps,

Jon needs to be aware of this and remove that folder from his updates. I'll send him a private note.

I recommend all users copy the contents of their current Textures_Mipped_Base or Textures_Non-Mipped_Base into their Textures folder - whatever version of ADE they are running - unless, of course, they have modified a stock texture from one of those folders and not changed the name.
