• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Groundlayers and runways

Hi

I am trying to get the default runways in FS9 to be visible through custom made ground textures in Fs Architect but it seems not to be possible. I have tried all layers from 1-24. I think that the layers of the runways are 24. Can anyone help?

Are you talking about runways made with AFCAD/XML code? In that case it is impossible to get them on top of your ground polygons with photoreal textures. Only mesh photo textures show below them.

Hi Arno

If the default runways are made with AFCAD/XML code, then yes. I will have to make custom runways then but do you have any idea at what layer they have to be to appear above the photo texture grid?

Hi Kjartan,

I am not sure what you call default runways, that is really different for each program you use. In AFW or FSSC a "default" runway is made using the older Fs2000/Fs2002 techniques and these runways can be shown on top of SCASM ground polygons with your own photos.

But if the runway uses the Fs2004 XML technique it is not possible, unless you make a hole for the runway as Bob suggested.

I am not familair enough with FsArchitect to tell you which type of runway it creates, but I guess you should be able to see from the source code that is created for you.

The original FS9 runways is what I call default runways.

The newest version of Fs Architect uses the same XML style runways as the original ones so I guess I will have to make transparent area for the runways as Bob suggested. That will be tricky and take time so lets get back to work! :)
