• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Groundmaker and OpenGL

Hi

I have two questions :

1. I installed GM,updated to latest version.I tried to use it with "OpenGL on" setting, but i see only empty objects without any texture. Why?

2.After install the latest version, start the program, call the "About..." command from Help menu, but it says the version is "beta 4.0",not 5.6.Why?

Unless I am looking in the wrong place Groundmaker seems not to have been updated for several years. Looking at the website the last version that can be downloaded there is Beta 4.0.

Given that it no longer seems to be in development is there any special reason for you to use this program rather than something like SBuilder which is more up to date?

I have never used the program myself so can't answer the question on OpenGL

Ah

Well that is a different program - Arno is referring to Ground2k4 and not GroundMaker.

Shit :p You're right,I thought it is the same program ( i dont know why)...

But the OpenGL mode doesnt work in GROUNDMAKER for me....

I presume that you have the openGL libraries installed. I think they are installed by default with XP, and certainly the mdlTweaker 3D view uses openGL so you might want to see if you can display 3D objects using that - it will confirm or not whether openGL is working correctly on your computer.

Thanks !

I tried MDL Tweaker : opened my MDL,it contains only one textured poly.
In MDL Tweaker i see only a grey poly....

Is that OpenGL libraries downloadable?

Well if you are seeing anything then it seems that the openGL library is in place. The problem is more likely to be related to the location of the textures needed for the object.

Are the textures located in the appropriate texture folder? That is the texture sub folder which is at the same level as the scenery folder that the object is in.

Grey object generally mean that they program cannot find the textures.

I just started the program to search the settings ( there's an option to locate the texture directory manually, you know). But when I opened my project the texture appeared on my poly :-) So it needed a restart,I think.

I wonder why you are using Groundmaker. Sorry if that sounds odd but there are more recent tools such as Ground2k4 and SBuilder which can do the same and are current developments.

Hi,

I think GroundMaker can't find your textures, you might have to check if the paths have been set correctly. Also, if I remember correctly GM can not display DXT textures.

Personally I still think that GM is a very nice program, I like the interface a lot more than AFW or FSSC. But unfortunately it has not been updated since Fs2000 anymore, so I would not choose it make scenery anymore. SBuilder and Ground2k4 are totally different kind of tools (for mesh scenery, instead of airports), so I would not compare them with GM.
