• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

G'day everyone.

Rob AKA: Lt. Finney of Finney Air here.

Some of you may know me and most will not but hello to all!

I am also seeking some guidence. We are interested in makinng ground polys for the Arctic area as there is nothing for one of the most scenic places in the world. We have released "Finney Air Arctic set v1" for EZ Scenery and plan on expanding it further and making ground textures, this will fill the gap.

Could someone kindly show us where to start, links, threads, any info and we'll do the rest or if any one is interested in helping creating the Arctic area let us know.

Thanks in advance!
Rob

Hi Rob,

Not sure if I fully understand your question, what kind of ground polygons do you want to make? If you are talking about adding some forest here, lake there, etc then a tool like SBuilder would probably be the easiest one to use. You can make VTP polygons with it. If you are working with FsX then you should try SBuilderX.

I know the example of forest and lakes is not that good for the artic area, but I can't imagine that you want to add more ice and snow :).

Gday Arno

Thank you so much for the reply. I was about to give up all hope.

I thought this may throw a few off so I'll try to explain it the best I can.

We are pretty good with Gmax for making models and just about anyhting else for scenery.

What it is we are trying to say is how do make runway textures like image below.

Any help will be greatly appreciated and many people will benifiet from us learrning. I've heard you can do it in Gmax.

Thanks again.
Rob

Hi Rob,

For that kind of high resolution ground textures, it is indeed best to use GMax. All you need to do is use the Fs2002 gamepack and tweak the ASM code a little bit to get proper ground polygons. This article on the Wiki explains what you need to tweak.
