• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Help with Island border and traffic on bridge (SbuilderX)

Hi everybody. I'm making the scenery of RJBE (Kobe aiport, Japan). I'm almost finished with the terrain design but I've some problem as you can see on the pictures the water elevation surrounding the island is lower than the elevation of the airport but it raises up to meet the island's border (I hope you understand what I'm saying). I would like to know how to make a ramp effect for the island? I used sbuilderx to put Airport Background flatten with altitude of all the point superior to the water level without success. Also how to make freeway traffic move over the bridge that I created using the extrusion bridges?
Thanks for your help

If the drop off from island to water is sharp (like a sea-wall) you won't get perfect water using just flattens. You can try sloped flattens, if it is OK not having it steep at water's edge. For your extrusion bridge, uncheck the "suppress platform" box in the properties for the line. Even then I've had trouble with traffic sometimes won't always use the bridge (check closely how the bridge end merges with the terrain).

Thanks for your response but What do you mean by sloped flattens? and how do I make them?
The freeway traffic is now working with your method! :)

I don't have much experience with them, but I know there are some devs who do a lot of work to prevent the "airport on a plateau" appearance. The basic idea is that in SBX you can assign altitudes to vertices of a polygon set to airport boundary - flatten. In my limited use I try to use triangle polygons but I guess it is possible to use more complex polygon though I'm not sure how SBX works with those. I would try with 4-vertex poly first. The problem with slope meeting water, among other things, is that it depends on the mesh slider settings that the user has. I guess another approach is to create a scenery object that represents a sea-wall. Doing that all the way around the airport would be a challenge.

Alright maybe someone have found a solution. But I guess I have the same idea as your suggestion because I already made put some "gen_jetty_100m" objects using whisplacer around some points of the airport to make look bordered but it's a tedious task. Thanks again for you reply

So I found that the mesh resolution gives me what I wanted! You just have to adjust it to the max in the FSX setting and you'll get your island elevated a few meters above the sea level.
