• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Help With SimDirector.

So I recently found out about SimDirector and want to use to add some buildings into the scenery but running across a couple of problems. If I try to run SD from within P3D it gets stuck on loading at 37%. If I run it on its own I can get the program to load but can't get the catalog to load. I waited over 20 mins with no luck. I have the Orbx Libraries and made to sure to add them to the P3D scenery library so don't know why it's not loading.

Any suggestions?

J I have the same issue with P3DV5 Professional. A check of the P3D forums produces mixed results, it seems to depend upon the number of addons you have. I have a lot of scenery added in (ORBX) plus stuff from FSX that works fine and cannot be replaced anyway. It is effectively useless for me at the moment. I used to use Instant Scenery to create non airport scenery but that was 32 bit and does not work in 64 bit. ADE only does airports and SBuilder is to large scale, so I was really hoping that this feature would be the answer here.

I have waited 45 minutes with it stuck at 57% and eventually killed the whole process using task manager as the P3D was completely unresponsive to any dialogues.

Even at its worst FSX with instant scenery would only take 10-15 minutes with some 700 scenery addons to come good. It seems to me that P3D is trying to load virtually every object or texture before sim director will function, seems to me they need to fix this because ignoring scenery building - how can you use this tool to create missions in P3D if this is what happens. I guess we wait upon LM to fix it or something.

That's too bad but glad it's not just me. All I really want to do is add maybe like 5 buildings to the area around Area51 that I can use for target practice. Is there another program I can do this with?

Guys, P3D V5.3 (I am using HF2) resolves all these issues - catalog loads very quickly (even with loads of items in scenery.cfg), model placements correct, import of group items now correctly placed, etc. Like yourselves, I found the SD concept of placing scenery to be good idea but its perf and faults made it useless. P3d v5.3 SD fixes all this.
