• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

hi i am trying to make a file for rwy 12 with gmax i have make mdl, and some sort of like file libray creator. and i try to export it like "taxilite.mdl" because that is what the tutorial said to do but i cklick O.K. then it says "dont know how to save that file type" and it is getting very annoying. any knowledge welcomed.

Hi,

Is this problem when exporting from GMax? What kind of export type have you selected in the file dialog then? It should be set to "Sceney object (MDL)".

That probably means you have not installed the gamepack for Fs2004 yet. Please download the GMax SDK from MS and install it into your GMax folder.

Or if you already did that, you forgot to start GMax with the Fs2004 shortcut, instead of the normal shortcut.

You have to use a special shortcut to startup Gmax, otherwise some plugins won't be loaded. You can find the shortcut in the folder \Gmax\Gamepacks\fs2004\ . You can copy this shortcut to your desktop for example. You can remove the original shortcut from your desktop.

when i open gmax/gamepacks/fs2004 there is no fs2004 i can only open gmax/game packs and that folder is empty.

i donloaded all the stuff i need now i still get a pop-up saying "Make MDL was not found ,or failed to convert the model specified in 'D:\Program Files\GMAX\MakeMDL\Cone' to .MDL file. Check system paths. how do i check the system paths? and after i cklick O.K. it says "export module failure. PLEASE HELP.

Did the gamepack get installed properly in your gmax/gamepacks folder (you should have a fs2004 folder there now)? And did you use the Fs2004 shortcut to start GMax?

If that is all true it could still be that you have your units no setup correctly (MakeMDL works best if you have GMax set to use meters). And also your windows decimal character should be set to dot (some countries use comma by default).

Hope this helps,
