I share Milton's "dilema".
I make my daily rounds, but I'm sure that I miss many good "niche" aircraft developer sites, so the cross pollination of ideas and tips is essential.
Some developers lean to one or another site, and lurk in others. From our (FFDS's) point of view, *where* the modeller gets the information from is not as important as the fact that he gets *good* information.
FFDS was set up with idea to share freely this information. As such, it has depended on the goodness of the various developers and modelers over the years to come, ask questions, but more importantly, share what they've found out. We've developed a good base of source files for all the flightsim modeling programs (and don't think you can't get some use of that old AFX) from Flightshopp through AF99, FSDS, and gmax, all due to the willingess of develoepers to share their work. THere's also a good base of tutorials, either downloadable (there was no Wiki when we started out, and the FFDS caretaker is barely html literate, let alone php/css/xml/ aware to do any fancy stuff) or links to the tutorial site itself (Yes, some tutorial makers prefer links to their sites rather than the actual tutorial).
fsdeveloper.com has a good crew of powerful enthusiasts who are well connected with the Flight Simulator development team, allowing them to learn the ins and outs of upcoming versions, if not actually participate in developing some of the tools and actual effects !! In contrast, in spite of having supported Flight Simulator modelling for over eight years, I doubt that FFDS registers with any of the Flight Simulator develoment team, other than a link in the fsinsider.com developer links page, and a link to the panel forum in Engauged's blog page.
Again, *where* the information comes from is not as important as getting the information out there.
