• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

[horn] section in sound.cfg SDK

The sound config section of the aircraft container SDK mentions a [horn] sound section, but there doesn't appear to be any event or sim var associated with it. Is this an error or omission in the SDK?

Horn section in FSX

Nope it works , you just need to find a suitable wav file. I found one as a mob ring-tone. If you are into ships, Hama has just released a Japanese Helicopter Carrier which has a ship horn sound. See the FS Shipyards web-site for details of his release.

Horn

I use it in a nested effects file for FSX AI Ships as the sim.cfg only allows 1 effect file

The opening lines are

[Library Effect]
Lifetime=5
Version=1.00
Display Name=lct_fsx_tug

[Sound]
FileName=Ship_horn_twice.wav
MinAttenuationDistance=700.00
Looping=FALSE

[Properties]
Cockpit=1
VirtualCockpit=1
Spot=1
Tower=1
Map=1
StopTemp=10.00

[Emitter.0]
etc

The looping = false only plays the wav file once. In my set-up after the ship pushes back and transitions into forward motion the horn sounds. Hama seems to have his sound built into his model as I haven't found it in any of the effects and it only sounds once when underway.

If your are using a pilotable ship, the gear button could be used to trigger the sounding of the horn

Mm, I couldn't find it. Please post a direct link.
