• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How do I actually use the object in the library?

I followed the tutorial to create a building in Sketchup 8, then used Model Converter X with the FSX SDK and ultimately Library Creator to make the BGL that contains my terminal building (will be used in FSX scenery).

The tutorial however does not really tell me much about the last part. I use FSX Planner to create airports. With it I create the runways and all airport related stuff. With FSX Planner I also put scenery objects by selecting the "Scenery Object" tool and then entering a GUID.

The question is, does FSX Planner needs to be aware of which library has the object, or this gets bound at run time when FSX loads the library I created together with the airport I created provided both BGLs are in the same scenery folder?

While Sketchup isn't as advanced as GMAX it seems like a quick way of making simple buildings (?) and putting them in FSX. If this goes well I will download some dAEs.

FSX Planner does not need to know anything about the object - unless it can display the footprint in the display (ADE for example, tries to show an accurate footprint. For this it needs to read some information about the object before you can use it). If FSX Planner does not have this then all that is needed is an accurate GUID for the object. FSXP will generate the placement code that is compiled.

Now FSX does need to know where the library is. Generally you would either put your libraries and textures in their respective Addon Scenery folders (scenery or texture) or you create a scenery area to hold them and then activate that area. The important thing is that you have your library and textures in an active scenery area (not a stock one of course!). The FSX graphics engine will read your placement code (from the FSXP compiled file) and then search its indexes for the GUID - if found the object will be rendered (always assuming the textures are available!)

Thanks, FSX Planner indeed doesn't need to know (kind of a side effect is not being able to display footprint or some other stuff).

I created my first buidling and did as you pointed, created an active area and in the I put both my FSX Planner airport BGL together with my library and then the textures on the other folder and voilá! it was there!
