• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello all,

Im new to all this scenery stuff, ive been playing flight sim for a long time and admire the things u designers can do with scenery. I would like to give back to the flight sim community by making some scenery of my own. I am making an AFB in central nevada. I have my coordinates and i have already started making the afcad file. I went and got fstflatten(thanks arno for the suggestion) but when i went to set up the vertices it linked them alright and i pushed create bgl. what do i do now?

what other programs should i get? I have RWY12 and FSSC I also have NOVA but i dont really know how to use FSSC and NOVA, could anybody help a guy out?

Gday Jon.

May i suggest that you start with AFCAD for basic runways and taxiways etc, Also get to grips with the BGLComp SDK from microsoft to become familiar with XML to place scenery.

Also use Dicks TCalcc2004 software as this will beome priceless for obtaining Lat Lon co ordinates when you start to place objects ( either Default FS9 or Custom made ).

RWY12 would be good to place ready made and available Objects ( Custom ).

Once you are comfortable with the above, then decide to either use programs like FSDS or Gmax to then build your own Custom objects, altho im an advocate of FSDS due to its easy learning curve, your prob better actually doing Gmax and altho its daunting in its learning curve, it can be done with help from forums like there are here.

Dont dive in and try to re design the local Intl airport, pick a small G.A. field or even make a fictional one and keep it simple. If you try to high from the onset you will become frustrated and dissapointed, start small and get the feel of all of the above and a method of design approach. This being obtained, your knowledge gained and also experiance will stand you in better staid for attacking larger projects in the future.

Again as your experiance grows, you can then start with things like animation of objects and with the use of either Ground2K4 or SBuilder, you will be able to start creating your own custom ground to further enhance your scenery.

Expect to spend atleast 12- 18 months in a learning curve to get a good sound grounding, im now at 4 yrs experiance and still learning as it never stops but be hearty as there are many who are willing to assist you and remember, the only Stupid question is the one you Dont ask !

Good luck and we all look forward to your up and coming efforts.

best rgds Jeff
