• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to add text to a texture image

I did this some years ago and cannot remember how I did it and know that text needs to be added as a mirror image.
I also have searched Youtube unsuccessfully for a tutorial as well as here at fsdevelper.
I seem to think that it can be done relatively easily using MCX but cannot determine how - using an image editor (PSP or PS) required the mirroring of the text,

Would someone 'point me to' a tutorial either video (preferred) or text.

Thanks

I have never heard of anyone editing textures using MCX? You could use it to convert the texture to 24 bit BMP (BMP choice) which could be edited in a paint program, then re-converted to the desired FS format.

It was more of a question. I looked around all the icons at top of screen but didn't see anything but was just wondering as I did not know if there was specific software around.

In MSFS you do not mirror the text (DDS are not vertically flipped in that sim). Any paint program can place text on a texture.

Thanks Dick. The DDS 'version' of the texture probably does not flip BUT I outputted in PNG format (in MCX) and the resulting image has the text flipped (mirror). Unfortunately my image editor (Paint Shop Pro) does not support DDS.

Hello...

I suggest GIMP, it's free and does support textt.

To add: GIMP does support DDS format also, but not sure if correct version for MSFS. I haven't tested that yet or had the time as of late.

I will try that out soon.

[added later] Well it certainly opens a dds (msfs texture) file ok.
