• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

FSX How to create Approaches

I have created a better version of a default airport to update it more like real life. I would like to create the approaches of runway 17/34 on this airport. The airport has a VOR but apparently not aligned to the runway.

Anyway, I see a dialog full of text felds and I haven't gotten a clue as to how to add a new approach. I mean, I can add but what information should I enter on the leges, for example if I want to create an approach that begins at a point 15nm off the airport (no FS fixes), do an ARC of some time and then go straight in.
 
I assume you meant to type ILS, since a VOR by design has 360 degrees of radial, and therefor cannot align with anything, much less a runway... ;)

What airport? Do you have a current chart showing the approved approaches?
 
Thanks it is a very useful reference but unfortunately it does miss certain things. For example, the airport I want to create approaches for is PX02. This airport has no NDB or VOR, the nearest VOR is 40 nm away, so is the nearest NDB. The nearest FIX to either end of the runway is 20-30 nm away.

I wanted to create the Final Approach leg for both ends of the runway but couldn't figure out how. It asks for a Fix type (NDB, VOR, TERMINAL NDB, TERMINAL VOR, WAYPOINT) but given that PX02 has neither VOR nor NDB I figured WAYPOINT was the best bet. The problem is there is no near-enough waypoint either.

My final leg (GPS approach) would be a straight line from 15nm away from the runway to the runway. How would I do that?

Also, as for the region I was entering MP (airport is in Panama) but wasn't too sure if it was Q (FSX region "South America West"). In any case I get a compilation error on the approach. In this case I cannot specify a waypoint because there is no standard FSX waypoint.
