• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 How to harden an SBuilder poly?

This is what happens when I make a custom poly in SBuilder. I've made a simple rectangle VTP2 poly for the cargo area at my local airport and have chosen Cement type from the drop-down menu. But in FS9 when the aircraft is taxiing the tires scatter dirt along the path, same as taxiing on the grass. So, the question is - how can I harden the poly surface to make it function as a concrete apron.

The other question is about modeling aprons in SBuilder. Well, I have a freeware KBOS airport by George Grimshaw. The AFCAD shows NO apron surfaces but apron links and taxiways only. Me thinks the author had done the surfaces in another program. Is it possible to model aprons this way, i.e. without using AFCAD manager's default options?!?

Thank you!

Hi Bina,

I don't believe there is a way to do what you are asking, the cement you speak of is just a landclass texture with no further properties.

I don't know the scenery you mention but it sounds like the aprons are hi-res photoreal textured polygons. These can be produced with Gmax using the FS2002 Gmax SDK but it's quite a complex procedure.

There are also some BGL commanders that can make an area smooth (SCASM SurfaceType command), but I am not aware of a way to produce these from VTP2 polygons.
