• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to make an airport?

Hello

I am new in this forum, could anyone tell me if with ADE is possible to make an airport?

I would like to make an airport which is not in P3D yet, so I would like to make a runway where I can land in this airport, thanks

WART
lat 7° 1'19.89"S
long 113°53'13.94"E

Hello:

Yes, you can use the WART ICAO airport code if it is not yet used in FSX or P3D.

WART (formerly WRST) ICAO is entered as a new airport into the FSX / P3D airport database via:

ADE Menu > File > New Airport > Airport Identification > Airport ID

Next, one creates Airport Backgrounds, RWYs and Start Locations etc.

BTW: A 'Start Location' object is what actually adds WART to the FS airport pick-list.

Good luck with your project ! :)

We look forward to your progress; I'm confident that a new 'WART' in FS will not be a 'WRST'-case scenario ! :rotfl:

Hello Gary

Hi John:

No, 'reverengary' (aka "Gary Hayes") is not me.

By the way about my project, it seems there is no way I can do that, as it is too complicated for me ;-)

But I appreciate your support.

That airport only has a few buildings that would be fairly easy to make in ex: Sketchup (if you wish to use custom 3D objects).

Otherwise you could easily make a airport for public distribution that uses FS default scenery library and generic building objects.

BTW
: I could not find a sectional airport chart, so one may not need to be as detailed at WART as one might be at others.

There are many good and talented folks here at FS Developer that could help you ...if you wish to try sometime.

Feel free to ask for some help getting started in ADE; you might find that is easier than you think (and fun too !) :)

Please refer to the ADE manual. Part 3.0 details how to create a new airport from scratch. Very handy.

Again thanks Garry, and also Tom for your tip about Part 3.0 ADE manual, the thing is about this project, when I watch in youtube about how to use the ADE, it is adding the map to the airport which is already in the sim or P3D, but in this case WART still not in Prepare3D, wel in X-plane.
I wish WART already in Prepare3D so that I can use the ADE to add the image of course, and abou this airport why I realy want to mak because when I was in the secondry school I was there, after High school, I go to abroad and now I settle down in Europe, so that is reason.
not to fancy about the builing in the area as you see on google earth, I just want to be able to land there and fly between WADD or WARR to WART. BTW I do not have any knowledge to use the Sketchup, well I hope one day I can find talented folks here how can help me out.

first to make the WART in Prepare3D ;-) , but I will definetely give it a try, eventhough still do not know how to start with ;-)

Hi John:

It looks like you are not yet familiar with how to download- and then add- an aerial imagery 'background image' to ADE, correct ? :scratchch

If so, we can provide you with info on how to do that. ;)

Generally speaking, ADE does have limits as to how large and detailed an individual 'background image' can be.

So, in some cases, one may either:

* use a single larger area (but lower-resolution) (ex: JPG) file

...or:

* swap between several smaller area (but higher-resolution) (ex: JPG) files

...'Added' to ADE as Geo-referenced 'tiles', that can be used as 1 or more 'background image(s) at various places around an airfield.

Yes, it is correct, how can I start to make an airport which is not in P3D yet? can I do that with ADE?

Hi John:

Please tell us what version of Windows you use:

Vista, Win-7, Win-8.x, or Win-10

Also, please tell us if that Windows version is 32-Bit or 64-Bit, so we can direct you to the best version of SBuilderX to use for downloading aerial imagery for a 'background image' in ADE.

OK, there are reports by end users of SBuilderX that they needed to use SBuilderX version 3.13 (32-Bit) to avoid certain problems when creating CVX vector scenery BGLs.

So I would recommend initially, to download your aerial imagery tiles, that you install SBuilderx version 3.13 (32-Bit) from a link here:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/sbx314-and-windows-10.434998/

I also recommend that you allow installation of the "Modified Terrain.Cfg" at a prompt during SBuilderX installation / configuration.

Additionally, set your Windows configuration so it uses a "period" (.) as a decimal symbol rather than the comma (,) when using the FS SDK and other related FS development utilities (both freeware and payware).

This is done via:

Windows Control Panel > Region and Language > {Formats} Tab > [Additional Settings] button > {Numbers} Tab > Decimal Symbol (.)

Let us know when you have this part finished. :coffee:

If this is still too complex, we can suggest another method to capture aerial imagery with Geo-referencing info; just let us know. :)

OK, now you need to update the DLLs for the tile server 'aerial imagery download' part of SBuilderX ...to the latest versions.

That process should be explained by these threads:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/new-googleserver-dll.19913/page-2#post-774702

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/sbuilderx-background-not-showing-up.440471/#post-775915

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/use-water-elevation-from-dem.440698/#post-778010

Simply place the tile server DLLs into the specified SBuilderX sub-folder as discussed in the above threads.

Folders will be created by the DLL to contain any and all tiles downloaded; do NOT touch these directly for any reason.

Instead, when use of downloaded tiles in a 1-piece 'composite' "Background Image" is needed, use the process in this thread:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/use-water-elevation-from-dem.440698/#post-777963

That latter process will be used to create a 'high resolution' aerial image from which we will next make 1 or more compressed JPGs.

Let me know if you require any further explanation, and/or when you have finished updating the tile server DLLs for SBuilderX. :)
