• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to make invisible runway?

Hello,

Does anybody know how to make an invisible (100% transparent) runway in FSX Planner?

Thanks for your insights

Milan

Try making the width zero or as small as you can get it. If you cannot set it to zero then also set the surface type to match the underlying surface as close as possible

Invisible Runway - Solution Found

Well... after some playing around and asking some people I found a solution how to make a runway invisible in order to show the photo scenery "original" below it.

I decided to modify the default ice runway texture and to add full transparency to it via the alpha channel. Then I used the ice runway for the airport.

It works. But I can imagine some flaws:
1) Of course it modifies all the ice runways in FSX. It is a tweak to default textures.
2) It may mess up with some AI traffic as the planes may be limited to certain surfaces only (and not ice).

Anyway, for me it works just fine. I am using the transparent ice runway texture for the grass runways only and my AI GA planes (using Traffic X) do not seem to have any problems with it.

Hope that helps other people trying to solve the same riddle.

Regards,

Milan

Hi Folks

Just to clarify -
SDK - Compiling BGL - Runway
Note that runways specified with a width less than 2 feet are not rendered
(the minimum width that can be specified is 1 foot).

hmmm...

I tried that too as some people suggested to shrink the runway to minimum width but it was still rendered as a thin line (at least the grass runway, I did not check for other surfaces).

Will give it a try again.
Thank you!

OK, tried...

...with no effect. There is still a thin line which is clearly visible (see the screenshot).

Have you tried what you recommend? Does it work with you?
Thanks

Milan

Hi Folks

apollon01 -
I don't use FSX Planner.

However,
your screenie appears to possibly show a 1 METRE wide runway,
(it's certainly wider than 1 foot).

Ensure your XML runway section uses width="1.0F"

i.e. F for FEET

just tried to edit the xml directly to 1' and it works just OK :)

FSX Planner does not allow from the GUI anything thinner than 2'

thanks a lot!

We put a 2 foot minimum on the runways in FSX Planner because it you entered zero it made it impossible to select the runway again. This will be adjusted in the next version, allowing for zero width runways.

yes, I noticed this with the taxiways

btw. it seems that if the runway width is 1' it is both invisible and selectable

thanks for a great tool!

Hello,

As a former SceneGenX user ;) now using FSX planner something great which is missing is the ability to select an object from the list of objects in your airport ...
so when you loose something below something else you can still select it :)

regarding invisble runways, how about not writing them at compile time ?

I did for my heli ony aiport as FSX do not allow me to render the proper look

regards
