• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Well now. I am using GroundMaker Beta 4 :| Made for sumin like FS2000.

Anyone know about Beta 5? Due to be released in 2003 and yet....

I think we can say that GroundMaker is no longer being develloped. I had contact with the author a few years ago, but he does not respond anymore. This is a pity, because I like the interface of GroundMaker a lot. But I think we must see it as a great tool for Fs2000, but not of much use anymore know in Fs2004.

It's an interesting thought. I am using groundmaker still, and have created a BRAND NEW SCENERY FOR FS2004. Here are a few screens. :speanut:
A pic from EOD- design of the terminal.

Yes, it will still work. I can also design a scenery with the tools from Fs5. But you can not take advantage of the new techniques of Fs2004 and in the end the performance is probably also worse.

So it will work (just like FSSC and Airport for Windows still work), but if you want to make use of the Fs2004 techniques (XML style airports, floating point commands for your 3D object, etc) then using these old tools might not be the best choice.

Seems to be a common paradox....what is the definition of "it works!"

Way back when asd was a great tool, and its authors claimed it to still work version after version, long after its usefulness was dwindling severly and alternatives abounded...but folks got fooled by the statement from the authors that it was compatible.

The evidence was screen shots that "it works". Of course screen shots could be taken, but the real expectation from users and designers for "it works" must include:

1. When used with a complex set of models, users frame rates are competitive with the best tools available at that given time

2. available features desired in the industry are made available within that tool.

3. Current sim version sdks are adhered to within the processing stack for future compatibility.

Any tool that meets the 3 criteria above merits "it works!". Any tool that doesn't meet these criteria is not preferred regardless of the presence of screen shots.
