FSX Instant Scenery 2

Hi

Just bought Instant Scenery 2.
I've made a model in Goodle Sketchup that i want to work with in Instant Scenery.
I have already converted the model into a MDL file but when i try to open it in Instant Scenery 2 in the game it says: "The folder is not an active scenery folder. With the current settings, Flight Simulator does not use scenery files from this folder. Are you sure to open a scenery file from this folder?"

Thanks for the help! :-)

Hi AirCruiser, Hi all !
IMHO, IS2 doesn't work with MDL files (If I make a mistake, please, correct me :) ). You have to compile your MDL to BGL and put it in a scenery folder that FS can recognise, ie a declared scenery folder in FS.
Your BGL file will appear in the list of all available BGLs in IS2. Then, by selecting and placing it on your scene, you have to save your work in a BGL placement file at your choice, with a different name, of course.
Is it clear enough ?

Sorry i forgot to say that i have already done that with the Library Maker that comes with Instant Scenery 2.
But what is a folder that fs recognise?

Thanks.

Usually you have to make a objects library, you say Instant have that tool already, LibraryCreatorXml can do that too, you add your model to this new library, and active the library in the scenery library like any other scenery. so you can get those models. then you can use those model and place them in Fsx.

Just active the library like any another scenery, the library have the same folders structure that any scenery folder, just that. this means that you then have access to the objects, in the Objcet Placement tool, or instant scenery tool or whisplacer whatever it be. good luck.

AirCruiser,

You need to read some of the basic information about how files are organised in FSX scenery folders.

In short,
Your models are compiled into a bgl file
That bgl ifle is placed in a folder that is activated in your FSX scenery library
The textures for the library will need to be in the corresponding Texture folder.
Instant scenery 2 will need to have "Global Addon Libraries" or similar activated.
IS2 saves a bgl file that is also in an active Scenery Folder.

You are not "dumb" as you put it, you just need to research some basic things about how FSX works, by doing a bit of reading.

The FSX SDK, and the FsDeveloper wiki are invaluable sources of information.

Don't worry, I must say that it's was difficult for me to get the hang of all this, Try to learn how the LibraryCreatorXml from Arno work, and then try to make a library, all this take me a lot of time, the easy part of all this is activate the library in the scenery library of Flight Simulator.

But how?

Sorry i'm really dumb...

OK , this is how you do it .
1. Download LibraryCreatorXml from "Downloads"
2. Make a folder , say "My Objects" . Inside this folder make a subfolder "scenery" and another one "texture"
3. In the texture folder move the textures of your model .
4. Start LibraryCreatorXml . Click File/NewLibrary . It will ask to save new.xml . Save it anywhere , it doesn't matter . The button Add MDL objects will be activated . Click on it and import you .mdl file .
5. Once your mdl file is imported , click File/Save Library as .. and save your library (give it a name of your preferance) xml file for furure editing .
6. Click again File/Compile Library BGL and save your .bgl file in My Objects/scenery . Close LibraryCreatorXml .
7. Copy the folder My Objects with the subfolder scenery which contains the .bgl file you've made , and subfolder texture where you have placed the textures in FSX/Addon Scenery .
8. Start FSX . Click Settings/Scenery Library/Add Area
9. Go to Addon Scenery , find My Objects , Double-click on it , click OK and then click anywhere on the white area . You will see My Objects on top of the list of scenery areas . Click OK . Wait for the updating and then exit FSX .
10. Restart FSX . Start Instant scenery and you will see your .bgl listed ready for placement .

Hope this helps

Thank you very much!
But i still have a problem..
When i say combile library bgl it says "please specify the location of BGLComp in the options.
How do i do that?

Again, thank you!

In Library Creator XML , Options/FSX BGLComp path , goto Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK/SDK/Environment Kit/BGL Compiler SDK , click Open and then compile .

PS . Suggest you do a bit of reading how to use the necessary tools if you are going to make your own library objects .

Thank you very much! It helped!

But, now Instant Scenery 2 isn't showing in the menubar in fsx...
Can you help me please?
