• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Interaction FLAPS <-> Aileron

Hi there,

I am currently reading the POH for the DO228-101 and noticed the interaction between Flaps and aileron. From the handbook:

FLAPS lever position results in the following wing flap settings:

FLAPS LEVER FLAPS POSITION AILERON DROP
UP 0° 4°
1 5° 8°
2 20° 12°
DN 30° 13°

This interaction is clear - but I'm wondering how to handle this in the FSX. While modelling: when I animate the flaps, do I have to drop the ailron two? Or are there options in the cfgs and air files that can handle it?

What you're going to have to do is set up a flap node for the ailerons to be attached to, and then animate that node according to the specifications you have shown. There is no way to have the ailerons droop by having them animated as pure ailerons. The nice thing about FSX is that it allows animated dummy nodes, so you do not have to create a physical object to animate for the aileron flap motion. ;)

Best,

Owen

Hi Owen,

thanks for your answer! I'd never thought about using a dummy structure for that! If I got you right, I must create and animate a dummy and link the aileron to it!? And to get the opposit case, I have to attach the flaps to an aileron dummy?
Confusing!
I will try this at the evening!

Thanks for your help!
best regards and a happy christmas
