• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Is it possible to create a 'crash box' for a scenery object

I have added 'collision boxes' for scenery object in the past which work well but only result in (say) aircraft bumping away from the object when they contact it.

I would like to add a 'crash box' to an scenery object so that if an aircraft contacts the object is results in a crash.

How can I do that?

Thanks Guenter. I have just found out that it doesn't seem to be possible using Blender (MSFS) and I couldn't find how to add it with MCX in the documentation and so will ask if it can be added in the MCX forum.

I am starting to wonder if crash boxes are only applicable to aircraft and not scenery objects. Looking at MCX I can only find 'display crash box' anyway.

I don't personally fly with crash detect enabled, but as far as I remember, collisions will act as a crash box depending on what part of an aircraft strikes the box. Likely with a certain amount of force required.

Generally you want to use the collision shapes, however a mesh can also be used with an invisible type MSFS material with collision checked under the material settings.

This should work if crash detect is turned on in the sim. If not, your aircraft will just bounce off of it and smack the ground.

Thanks Chris. That's what I have (see images below). A long rectangular object with invisible MSFS material and collision checked (which I named 'collsion_81m') and I move that over the horizontal part of the stock MSFS stiff leg crane then duplicate and using the gizmo 'spin' it using the pitch or bank (can't remember wh9ich one) to end up with the collision object vertical to cover the vertical part of the crane
It works but so far I have only tested it by maneuvering a helicopter slowly and it bumps off.

I didn't bother testing 'driving' it 'hard' into the object. Anyway the (stock) MSFS power towers acts exactly the same way so that is good enough for me.

Thanks again.
